Tampa_boy:Nadal and Federer have been around for same time? Fed has played about 1200 matches, Nadal 700.
Federer has played 1147 matches and Nadal has played 799. That is the correct statistic. The matches played show a completely flawed picture. In many of the years, Nadal has faded out in the second half of the year and he loses early in tournaments or skips them. He has also missed many slams due to his injury issues. Federer has never missed a slam in over 11 years. So Federer's matches will inevitably be higher. My point was that just because Federer is 5 years older does not mean that Nadal will also play till that age. Nadal won his first slam before he was 19 while Federer won at 22. |

Nadal and Federer have been around for same time? Fed has played about 1200 matches, Nadal 700. I think the key is the younger generation. If they step up, it could be game over for Nadal. The truth is Nadal is best only on one surface. Unlike Roger who is good at 2 surfaces and 3 slams and indoors where Nadal is like Sampras on clay.... Interesting race. Yesterday was a huge win for team Federer.... Let us see Australian Open Daily Previews and Reviews

Well Federer was placed similarly many number of times when he got thulped at the FO by Nadal... -- we well know how many people managed all four GS in their life time... to do them twice is incredible....if that happens.... my point is Nadal has one 5 other GS too as recently as 4 months back..... In a nutshell, it is not as easy as the layman who look at the age gap might feel. --- this i agree though.....winning 4 slams.....is tough....i said 2 days back too...... to think he will be unstoppable at french for 3 more years is only a prediction.... Wimbledon is a open GS.....many favs...... US open my fav is still joker then only Nadal We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. -- Aristotle

Filmbuff: The one way i can see him break Federer's record is to regularly win the French Open another 3 more years and another Grand Slam or two. In a nutshell, it is not as easy as the layman who look at the age gap might feel. i think this is what will happen...who is the biggest threat to nadal now? nobody..joker is not consistant... ---- i disaggree.... Nadal was close to being the only player to win all GS 2 times...... French is is strength.......but can you rule him out of semis of others.....confidently? We are what we repeatedly do. It is not that easy for Rafa to beat Federer's record. People only look at the 5 year age gap, blah blah blah...my points to the contrary: - Nadal will be 28 in June, if he wins the French by then he would have 14 Grand Slams. To compare, Federer too had around 15 by the same age. Players peak by around 27-28 and it becomes increasingly difficult to win slams after that. Federer has won only 2 GSs over the last 4 years. - The age factor is not that relevant as how long they have been playing top flight tennis. Nadal has been for almost as long as Federer as he started off early. Nadal's first slam was in 2005 while Federer's was in 2003. The one way i can see him break Federer's record is to regularly win the French Open another 3 more years and another Grand Slam or two. In a nutshell, it is not as easy as the layman who look at the age gap might feel. |
