theoretically your receiver gives out 115 W/ch, but in realty you would be happy to see 50 W/ch. Speakers have range like 20W - 100W for input. But, they behave fine if you fee well over 100W (don't expect explosions). If you crank up receiver and use a wattometer, you may be feeding 30W for each speaker. That is more than enough for high volumes. For movies, there are occasions where you would need high power for short times (spikes) where a high powered receiver would come in use. Rest of the time, there is no difference between 50 w/ch and 200 w/ch receiver. | ||

 So if receivers says 115 Watts per channel. Does this mean if I have a 150 w speaker, max 115 Watts will come. if I have a 50 w speaker and I crank the volume, the speaker will explode | ||

KEFs are nice. B&W, Monitor Audio, Paradigm, PSB, Meridian, Focal, Revel are few examples of good brands. They offer $500 economy models to $50,000 high ends. You get what you pay for. Don't expect miracles from economy models, no matter what brand it is. | ||

Doesn't matter. Receiver amplifies 5 or 7 channels but not LFE (Low Freq effect) channel. LFE channel is fed as-is from receiver to sub and sub amplifies it. Hence there is wattage rating on sub. | ||

I am not an audiophile, but a few of my friends (including a part time DJ) who are connoisseurs have used KEF speakers and they swear by it. I have seen their systems and they blew me away. Buying in india is just not economical. They got their pieces from the us. | ||

Then u need Towers...and a couple of subs tht I mentioned....if u want it professionally built....get a acoustic expert into your house and have him suggest....aa reflective surfaces and placements of speakers matter most esp in large rooms | ||

Thanks mates, I do know that .2 means the second sub. So it seems like .2 is not necessary and hence 7.1 in enough without thinking of a 7.2 for future scalability. I'm not bass crazy for it to shake the room . I like the room to be filled with nice bass, like you are swimming in a bass medium | ||

center channel is heart of home theater setup. adhi lekunte you get "phantom center" effect which is virtual sound. For any movie watching, center channel is must have.
.2 means you are adding 2nd subwoofer. For 99% of time it is useless. One well configured subwoofer beats 2 poor ones. | ||

I'd buy a Polk PSW505 sub, a Onkyo 7.1 CH receiver, and sm55 def techs for front speakers and sm45 def techs for rear speakers ....u can later buy a good center channel speaker and surrounds if u think u really need them...motham oka 60k-70k lo aipotadi | ||
