Nice:
Yes - all boxes checked - taking a rickshaw, eating jalebis in Satyanarayana talkies road, tiffin in Navayuga hotel, 2 movies, random walk down Gandhi Chowk, seeing political rallies.... |

Theatre - Lakshmi Deluxe, Tenali Housefull on Sunday first show, ticket - Rs55 Absolutely nothing new in the story. In fact, even crediting someone as the story writer could have been avoided. Screenplay is what makes the difference and the strong nativity halo around the movie in the characters, dialogues, dialects pull the movie along quite pleasantly. Simple story of bava-maradallu, rich poor, father opposed to their friendship that blossoms into love, subham card. The movie is not too long and there are no boring moments. The dialogues are quite witty for most parts and are quite a delight. There is nothing one can fault in the movie but there is nothing to drag me to the hall. It is like a nice pleasant sunrise, but i am not going to wake up early to catch the sun. There are no dramatic moments, music is pretty humdrum (though only 2-3 songs), background score poor as regular in most recent movies (playing instrumental pieces from songs in the movie is not background score, it is sheer laziness and lack of talent). The guy who makes this movie rise out of the ordinary is the hero Raj Tarun who was spot on in his dialect, timing, intensity in the required scenes. A fantastic performance. How i wish our big heroes had the same kind of talent. To counterbalance Raj Tarun, the dishti bomma of this movie is the heroine. Untalented, unattractive, she pulls along on the same 2-3 expressions as we see in most Hindi actresses. Even the lip sync could not be done well. I could have excused this crap in a regular mainstream movie but in a movie which prides itself on its nativity, i find it rather disturbing. They must have had the girl just to aid in the marketing but the actress who played the second lead was miles ahead. For sheer plotting delight, this movie is not a patch on Ashta Chemma which unfolded like a PG Wodehouse script. The movie would have worked better with a better plot and a good Telugu actress and some nice songs. But that being said, i would rather see a movie like this than some crap mainstream fanboy movie. |
