Shockingly or lets say surprisingly, overseas audience are gradually turning out to be mass audience and patronising mass masala flicks, instead of urban-centric and sensible movies. Even though, audience in our state were bifurcated in three segments- A centres are meant for rich and educated class and B&C centres were mass consisting of lower-section of viewers, along with middlle and youth but overseas was considered a niche or A-plus audience- but the tastes of audience in all these four centers has almost merged, particularly across shores and gradually turning into star-struck viewers like in our country. Earlier, they only watched good looking Mahesh Babu for years, but in 2013, they added to two big stars Pawan Kalyan and Prabhas and Nitin to their elusive list of actors by gifting them biggest overseas hits of their decade-old careers besides encouraging multi-starrer Seethamma… featuring Venky and Mahesh which grossed 10 crores). From United states to Malaysia, from Durban to London along with Arab countries, the viewers across these diverse nations have encouraged action-entertainers like Mirchi (6 crores) and Atharintiki… (11 crores) and jr Badshah (3 plus crores) to expand their taste and success mass hero Jr NTR would be USP of this year. Earlier they used to patronise film of tasteful and realistic filmmakers like Sekar Kammula (Happy Days and Leader) and Krish (Gamyam), Devva Khatta (Vennela and Prasthanam), Chandra Siddarth (Aa Naluguru), Ashok (Pilla Zamindar) but now they have moved to the other side of the spectrum and preferring to watch some slam bang action and romance which is larger-than-life which is far away from realism and giving a new twist, to their expanding tastes. No doubt, T-town stars would be happy with this change of attitude, since they could tap a resourceful and bountiful market, with their mindless action films and push away realistic fare from overseas mind space Which could be detrimental to small group of filmmakers, who are trying to break new ground and give a new direction to Telugu cinema. If this trend continues even into 2014 and star films like ’1′, ‘Yevadu’, ‘Joru’ and Gabbar Singh 2 make more money then themetic films, then its high time, T-town filmmakers change their tracks and stop experimenting What do you suggest guys? Are overseas audience to be treated differently or they are part of our culture and taste. Share you thoughts. Timesofcity.com |
