Saarang:Inka retirement kooda avvakondane decide chesesaava?
Poni oka month poyaka or whenever he retires, let me know if if he got the same treatment/farewell as Sachin. Again my point is - you give 'the kind of farewell' to a person who has a character, inspiration etc in addition of having a ton of numbers to back you. |

Farewell series for Kallis...you must be joking. He is a guy with a lot of issues with his team members for a very long time. I can say he got more attention than Greame Swann. Only numbers chosi farewells ivvaru...you need to be a good team player...non controversial...your board, coaches should like you...you should be a public figure, inspirational etc. Except numbers, Kallis and many other people have no other credibility to deserve a farewell close to what Sachin got. |

Filmbuff:Just at the time when some questions were being raised about his form - not one moment longer nor short..
FB mama, I don't buy this argument for star players...no one can be in their top form through out their careers. There will be ups and downs and one should not hang their boots because some "back seat drivers" commented about them. They should give few tries to prove a point and if they cannot, then they can call it a day. In my opinion, Kallis has a year or two of test cricket left in him based on his mental and physical fitness, apart from his game. CHIRU - SACHIN - FEDERER |

Bongaram: Every legend Australian, English, SA player retired when it was time ponting?
Ponting was dropped from ODI in a few months after the lost the world cup.... they did not even try to sugar coat it as a retirement. Chief selector also indicated that his test time is going to be over fast. Ponitng also took everything gracefully. http://www.espncricinfo.com/commonwealth-bank-series-2012/co ntent/story/554480.html "It's a little bit hard to come here today and say I'm retiring when I've already been left out of the side," Ponting said. "I don't expect to play one-day international cricket for Australia any more and I'm pretty sure the selectors don't expect to pick me either." "I will continue playing Test cricket and I'll continue playing for Tasmania as well," Ponting said. "I think I've proved to myself and to everybody else that I'm still capable of dominating Test cricket as I did in the last series against India. I'm looking forward to getting back and playing the last couple of Shield games for Tasmania this year and then heading to the West Indies hopefully with some runs under my belt. http://www.espncricinfo.com/australia/content/story/554635.h tml |

He was no doubt a great batsman, but was more of a grinder, in the mould of Dravid, Gavaskar, Boycott, Chanderpaul etc, rather than a dominator who pulled the crowds to watch him. super point... made a similar point on a friend's fb page! Here it is: "I have lot of respect for Kallis, but to quote Rudyar Kipling "If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch," I feel this is where Kallis and to some extent Dravid come short compared to Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar. They were like a fine-dining experience as well as fast food! Kallis/Dravid are strictly for the fine-diners. All said, kudos to the great man. Mind boggling career." Tampa_boy:
I agree with Tampa to an extent. Besides the above reasons, there is a fundamental yardstick to determine the greatest of batsmen. The greatest batsmen have always dominated the best of bowling attacks and destroyed them in their pomp. They had swagger. They had style. They had the shots. They made ppl watch with bated breaths. Think Sir Don, Sobers, Viv Richards, Brian Lara, Sachin, even Ponting for tht matter. Does Kallis belong in the above category? You get your answer. He was no doubt a great batsman, but was more of a grinder, in the mould of Dravid, Gavaskar, Boycott, Chanderpaul etc, rather than a dominator who pulled the crowds to watch him. The greatest should be able to pull you to the stadiums. It's something like when the discussion of the greatest bowler comes up: Glenn Mc Grath makes a great case for himself with the highest wickets, but the names tht come up for discussions more often are Michael Holding, Larwood, Wasim Akram, Dale Steyn & many others. Glenn could bowl the same line, length and great bounce day in day out and got wickets. But Mc Grath simply didn't have the pace & the 'X' factor. So with Kallis. |

Rowdy:If You hated that why are you following their foot steps!
LOL! Think About Sukumar and Arya. Hatred is just another form of love. If they didn't care for SRT, they will be indifferent
Ustad:Now, I strongly feel Kallis & SA under achieved with the kind of talent they had.
You know the reason. On that 1 front, Kallis is a little better. He did score a 50 in that 99 SF. However, like Dravid, the bulk of his scoring comes against feeble attacks. check averages against the no.1 team of our times Aus = Lara and SRT average 50+ Kallis and Dravid? Fortunately Kallis did not have to play SA. Check Dravid - supposedly our best batsman's average against SA! 1 hundred in 4 visits! The truth is Dravid and Kallis gorge on mediocre bowling attacks like NZL, Eng (yes, pre-2009 they were mediocre) WI and for Kallis, India. This is what separates SRT and Lara. They scored against the very best = Australia. Forget all this, how can you put SRT's on the rise cover drives, or lofted pulls or laser like straight drives or Lara's rapier like bat flourish, nimble-toed footwork and absolutely sensual shots in numbers? In IIT we had profs whose classes were absolute DONT MISS - you just wanted to listen to them all day. Some profs - they had all the research papers and patents and achievements. They were absolutely a snoozefest in the class. Just did not have the talent to make a complicated theory sound cool and engaging to a student. Lara and Tendulkar are in the former. To me Dravid and Kallis fall in the latter. {Of course this is after looking beyond those wonderful numbers - which qualify them for the great category. Greatest? Ahem - sits better with Lara and Tendulkar] My friend and one of my favorite writer, Rajkamal

Firstly, kudos to the big man for a great career with both Bat & Ball. Now, I strongly feel Kallis & SA under achieved with the kind of talent they had. Excellent batsmen, terrific phast bowlers, world class all-rounders, good wicket keeper batsmen, world's best fielding side & still didn't win a WC and got # 1 test ranking just a few months ago. Bragging is a mask for insecurity. Truly confident people are quiet and unassuming.

He has attitude problems and issues with his team members. Captaincy material kakapoina, ivvaledani several times aligadu. Due to all these, (un)arguably did not (and does not)doesnt deserve more credit than what he got. |

Kallis is the best all-rounder of this generation, there is definitely a case for him for being the best cricketer, but Tendulkar, Warne, Lara and Mcgrath rate better than him in my book. He is definitely a Jacques of all trade and as close to being a master of all as anyone can be! Not my kind of cricketer, but respect for his achievements. A big loss for cricket, but Cricket forgot even Sachin in a matter of month, this too will pass. My friend and one of my favorite writer, Rajkamal
