New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yashwant Sinha came down heavily against the homosexuals partners of the US diplomats living in India calling it a "clear violation of diplomatic code of conduct". His reaction came after India's deputy Consular General Devyani Khobragade was taken into custody on Thursday and handcuffed in public on visa fraud charges. Sinha lambasted at the US authorities for treating Khobragade in the manner that she was. "No friendly country in the world will treat a diplomat in the manner in which in US authorities have treated the head of Consulate General in New York and no words are strong enough to condemn this action of US authorities," he said. Just a few days after the Supreme Court upheld Section 377 and gave a ruling making illegal, Sinha said that no preferential treatment should be given to the US diplomats living in India and they should also face the law of the land. "In this particular case what we should do is again I learn from media reports that there are a number of companions of US diplomats posted here in New Delhi, same sex companions, they have all been issued visas. What the Government of India can do immediately is to cancel those visas, arrest all these companions, put them behind bars and do what you like with them and prosecute them because they are staying in India in violation of our law at the moment," Sinha said. He further adviced the government to "stop treating visitors from the US even at the lowest level as viceroys visiting India,". |
