i have heard recurring meetings are used essentially to make people accountable... they bring peers subordinates and superiors and put the person who is accountable for a project on the spot again and again to deliver.... when that person gets ripped in the meeting... he will go back embarrassed to get it right next time.... |

My preference is always to skip meetings where i am not needed and am not going to be missed. There are lots of meetings that one is invited to just as part of a group like direct reports of someone etc. I always tell the meeting leader that i am not needed and will skip it. If i have to dial in i just put my headphones and do my regular work. My boss bought some Bose in-hear headphones that were really neat that do also noise cancellation. Nice sleek ones that one can use for con calls. Share presentations before hand, i hate this stupid habit nowadays of only sharing ppts over Lync or Adobe. There is no pre-read and hence no value add that anyone can do. Absolutely, absolutely stick to the time. Otherwise there is no discipline, no focus and no end in sight. Make oneself valuable, give the excuse that you have to attend another meeting and have a hard stop. Take copious notes for the important meetings. |

Chillarodu: for web conference calls, there is an app which will wake you up when it hears your name from phone speaker. for live meetings there are cordless headphones which will not reveal that you are listening to music
LOL. these assume you dont want to be a part of the meeting. which is a diff story. what if I want to participate but its just a pain. for example, taking notes or summarizing meeting minutes. balupu s/o gelupu |

Aspects ante - Setting up of agenda and publish it prior to meeting and stay the course of agenda during the meeting. This will help in reducing cluttter that usually happens during meetings. Personal ga observed - lot of times meetings set jestharu but what do they want to discuss/achieve evadiki idea undadu. |

Bushu:So one of the more painful things at work I see are meetings. What do you guys think can be done to improve those - assuming we cannot completely eliminate them. - which aspects of a meeting can be optimized, removed, enhanced to make the overall experience better and way more valuable. - whether it's the in-person meetings or the web/conference calls.
