One such case,they recalled,came to light in the year 2003 when a womens cooperative housing society approached a local revenue office claiming to have been looted of its land in the citys plush Banjara Hills area.The society alleged that the land measuring 7,280 sq yards and located on Road No 12 (Banjara Hills) was unlawfully taken away from them by a group of land grabbers.The three men the society held accused in the case were: G P Reddy (realtor ••• investor),Amarender Reddy (businessman) and Amodhi (small-time pattadar).The property is worth a whopping Rs 36 crore (approx) at present. Drawing parallels with the Bengaluru case,sources said that the 2003 scam was also designed on similar lines.Like in Bengaluru even here the group floated a fake society and tried to siphon off the land, said a city oldt i m e r a d d i n g,Only in this deal it was Amodhi who crafted the idea and G P Reddy supported him with the capital. It is believed that in the name of facilitating the original society with getting an Urban Land Ceiling (ULC) clearance from the government,the trio attempted to gain ownership over the property.The land is now under litigation. Both parties produced some documents claiming right over the land.But the matter is far from being resolved even today, said Raghuram Sharma,Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO),Shaikpet.While Sharma refrained from commenting on the credibility of G P Reddy,sources said that the man along with Amodhi was involved in many such land disputes all over Banjara Hills.They alleged that Amodhi,who had unlawfully entered into agreements with numerous parties who owned land in this upmarket locality,had roped in G P Reddy for financial assistance.Amodhi himself is a small-timer with little cash.Picchi Reddy is the man with the money, said a source who went on to explain how these shady land transactions begun in the area.Most of these properties belonged to people from the Nizams era who abandoned them post partition.In the later years land grabbers like Amodhi got their names added in many of these land agreements and started to claim right over them.As most of the original owners of these properties and their kin now live abroad there is no one to dispute their claim.G P Reddy too has been for long thriving on such deserted pieces of land, the source said. Known to be a cash-rich businessman-•••-realtor now,G P Reddy started off on a very modest note,say industry insiders.This middle-class man from Kadapa,they say,got lucky when we to came to the city and bagged a few sub-contracts with some of the leading realty brands of Hyderabad.Once noticed by these big players,G P Reddy started to win contracts of his own too.In the meantime he also made a trip to the Middle East.While the purpose of this tour is not known for sure,some say he went on a mining contract and brought back a lot of money, claimed a city realtor.This money was then invested in various ventures in the city,one of them being a fashion house on Road No 12.It also made him popular in the land grabbers circuit,claim sources.
