Some Christian organizations have strongly criticized the YSR Congress president Y S Vijayamma for applying Kunkuma (vermilion) on her forehead like Hindus. Talking to the media, members of several organizations have said that Vijayamma was bringing disgrace to Christianity by wearing Kunkuma on her forehead which was banned in the religion. They also faulted her holding the bible and making political speeches. They said it was an affront to Christianity that she was visiting temples and other places of worship and offering prayers. Bishop Swamy Das has alleged that while every party was using the Christians for their political survival, none was working for the uplift of the community. Other leaders have alleged that the late Chief Minister Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had even occupied lands of the churches and given them away to his henchmen. They said because of GOs 746 and 747 issued during the YSR rule, 600 pastors were jailed. They also said that YSR had not given Assembly ticket even to a single Christian. |
