Party leaders said that Mrs Gandhi was a goddess for the people of Telangana for agreeing to the state’s bifurcation. Sources, however, said that it was only a coincidence that the temple dedicated to Sonia Gandhi was built close to the statue of her mother-in-law, Late prime minister Indira Gandhi, who was considered to be a strong supporter of united AP. Senior Congress leader Sunil Rao set up the temple. Congress leaders including MP Ponnam Prabhkar, activists and local people performed pujas before Gandhi’s picture in the temple on Sunday by breaking coconuts while party women activists offered harathi pooja. It was, however, surprising to note that photographs of minister Sridhar Babu and DCC president K. Ravinder Rao and Ponnam Prabhakar were placed besides Gandhi’s portrait. It is being viewed as an effort to counter the act of Seemandhra people who constructed a ‘samadhi’ for Gandhi recently, holding her responsible for the state’s bifurcation.
