Filmbuff: Who or what is shakta???
Sorry did not see this question till now Its one of the cults(?) in hinduism -like Vaishnava & Shaiva Shakti(the mother goddess) is considered Supreme...hence the feminist tilt perceived by Reddit The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise grows it under his feet : James Oppenheim |

I would rate Bhima as Greatest warrior above Arjuna and Karna. Look at his achievements 1. Killed manay rashasas, jarasandha, keechaka with sheer individual strenght 2. There has never been any help or guide to him in any war he fought 3. Many a times he was surrounded by Kaurava armies, which he sucessfully thrwarted 4. He even defeated Karna , Drona in the war 5. He is a complete family man resched and servced his family with Love during vanavaasa 6. Bheem resorted to hitting below the belt only when durodhan started breaking the rules 7. Sacrificied his wfife Hidimba for family One of the few greatest warriors who did not get thier due recognition. |

Even that is fine, please share. Jain version complete chesanu last month, in that war b'ween Krishna & Jarasandha is the main war and there is no Kurukhestra war at all. Much closer to Bhagavata Purana anochu. Cooooollll....Jst love various adaptions on Ramayana & Mahabharata. It is time we took our epics to International audience. Though attemots have been made, we havent been able to ruffle their fancy. I wish some mainstream fantasy novelist like George Martin or Joe Abercrombie adapts them to create a ripple in fiction world... |

Yes, even before he started these blogs - i used to regularly read Amit, Jabberwock, Anand Ramachandran, etc..we continued this for a year and half i think...then we discontinued...Cricinfo is a tough animal to beat though Prem has been trying his best..on Comscore we beat Cricinfo regularly in PVs but not in time spent. I don't recollect Bhogle's brother though... Prem used to maintain a good library in office in his room and we used to bond over that and i used to borrow books from him... |

rediff or yahoo? I've collaborated with him when he was with rediff to do some live commentary like how OBO is done in Guardian but somehow it din't take off & cricinfo nailed it with their ball - by - ball commentary. I enjoy reading re-telling of our epics from different perspectives of the characters involved in them. Till date I've read a translation of Sivaji Savant's Mrityunjaya [Which is the Mahabharata from Karna's point of view}; which was basically adapted into DVSK by NTR. Then you have the famous Chitra Banerjee's Palace of Illusions, oh boy its one scandalous read if you are into the whole myth & awe about the characters of protagonists in Mahabharat; The one I personally like the most and favourite is the one Prem Panicker adapted from Randaamoozham by M T Vasudevan Nair. Basically is from the POV of Bhima and tries to demystify the whole epic. If anyones cares to read, I'm putting in the links from where you can d/l. http://www.scribd.com/doc/20621790/Bhimsen (Word format) https://skydrive.live.com/?id=C44CD1DD55949EF8!142&cid=c44cd1dd55949ef8 (PDF format) Similarly if you people have your own personal favourites please do share the titles and preferably if they have an english translation. |
