Lok Sabha Seat allocation is based on population census of 1971. After that all inter state seat adjustment has been frozen. Central govt did not want to punish the southern states for successful family planning programs. It will not be reconsidered until 2026. If the seats are adjusted in 2026, then south might lose around 20 seats including AP. In 2026 I think southern states will not allow to do the seat adjustment. Most likely central govt will extend the freeze for another 2 decades. | ||

The Lok Sabha, as the name itself signifies, is composed of representatives of the people chosen by direct election on the basis of adult suffrage. The maximum strength of the House envisaged by the Constitution is 552 – upto 530 members to represent the States, upto 20 members to represent the Union territories and not more than two members of the Anglo-Indian Community to be nominated by the President if, in his opinion, that community is not adequately represented in the House. The total elective membership of the House is distributed among the States in such a way that the ratio between the number of seats allotted to each State and the population of the State is, so far as practicable, the same for all States. Usually 1 MP seat will have 7 MLA's seats under it. so aa ration lo SA lo 25 MP = 175 MLA's T lo 119 MLA's = 17 MP's | ||

On what basis MP seats are alloted to the state? We heard that if AP is split into 2 state then we get nearly 17 MP seats from Telangana. How it will be decided? Based on area? Why only AP has more MP seats? |
