New Delhi: Congress Vice President
Rahul Gandhi met Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh on Wednesday to
explain his stand on the ordinance on
convicted MPs. Sources say Rahul
conveyed to the Prime Minister his
opposition to the ordinance.
Sources say Rahul told the Prime
Minister that he did not intend to
embarrass him but at the same time
did not offer a clear-cut apology for
calling the ordinance 'nonsense'.
Sources also say the Prime Minister
has assured Rahul that the Cabinet
will look into issues raised by him on
the ordinance.
The Cabinet will meet on Wednesday
evening to take a final call on
whether to recall the ordinance or
not. Congress allies like the NCP and
the RLD are upset with what they
call Congress Vice President Rahul
Gandhi's open defiance to a Cabinet
decision.
NCP leader DP Tripathi said, "In such
important decisions, the UPA
coordination committee meet should
be called. We have already
demanded that. We will go by
whatever decision the PM takes in
the Cabinet. It is wrong to say that
the ordinance was brought to save
Lalu Prasad."
SP leader Naresh Agarwal has called
Rahul Gandhi's 'nonsense' remark a
drama. "This is only a drama. Rahul
is not aware of the mood of the
people," he said. "The ordinance was
brought after an all party meeting
where BJP had also agreed to it, it
should not be taken back," Agarwal
said.
