Delhi: Reaching out to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday evening reportedly sent a ‘fresh’ note to PM Manmohan Singh in New York, in which he reiterated his opposition to government ordinance against disqualification of convicted lawmakers. In his note, Rahul is leant to have told the PM with ‘all respect’ he ‘realizes what he feels is not in harmony with the Cabinet’. He has further expressed hope that PM understands his 'conviction', apparently referring to the stand he taken against the cabinet ordinance. Reportedly, Rahul has also expressed apprehensions that the ‘situation will be exploited by our(Congress) political rivals. Gandhi had earlier in a press conference in New Delhi called the ordinance as ‘complete nonsense which should be tore off’. After he made his stand public, Sonia Gandhi reportedly spoke to the PM about ‘reconsidering’ the ordinance, which is presently with President Pranab Mukherjee awaiting his formal consent before becoming a law. In face of altered circumstances with Rahul Gandhi making his opposition public, Mukherjee is expected to send back the ordinance for reconsideration. |
