Published Date : 02-Sep-2013 22:00:00 GMT The current tussle over Hyderabad is perfectly understandable because Hyderabad alone contributes 50% of the revenue of the state. Like every middle class Telugu family has one of their own living in the US, similarly every Telugu home has one member living or working in Hyderabad. There is absolutely no doubt that Hyderabad is what it is today only because of the efforts of the Seemandhra people, and their agitation is entirely justified, for they are fighting to retain the fruits of their creation. On the other hand the people of Telangana and the TRS leadership just want to gain hold of Hyderabad without putting in any effort to make the city what it is today. In this context, Seemandhra leaders also need to be rebuked for having focused only on Hyderabad at the expense of other areas in Seemandhra. It is akin to putting all eggs in one basket and the people are now paying the price. However, there have been corrupt leaders like Botcha Satyanarayana, who have played their part in destroying whatever opportunities came the way of other regions in Seemandhra. When the largest car maker in Europe, Volkswagen decided to set up a Rs 6000 crore plant in Vizag, people of the region were ecstatic for it would mean direct employment to 5000 people and indirect employment to nearly 50,000 people. In other words, had the plant come up, probably a majority of those people would not have to go to Hyderabad for their livelihood. But the great Botcha Satyanarayana destroyed the project when as the Industries Minister he was implicated in a scam of Rs 11.7 crore, a scam which came to be known as the Volkswagen scam. The top brass of Volkswagen were disgusted at this outcome and shifted the plant to Maharashtra. By falling on the feet of CM Rajasekhar Reddy, he managed to come clean out of the CBI inquiry. But thanks to the likes of Botcha, will such an opportunity ever come the way of Vizag again? Look at what you have done Botcha! Seemandhra people will never trust you or forgive you again. | ||
