A Bengali movie was made, based on writer Annapurna Devi's novel, "Agnipareeksha." When the print of this picture came to Madras, it was seen by Telugu directors and producers, who felt there was nothing much of any significance in the story. But producer Dukkipati Madhusudana Rao felt it otherwise as he liked the movie. The heroine in the picture gets married in her childhood. As she grows up she forgets about it and falls in love with the hero, who is none other than the same person to whom she had got married in her childhood. Everyone felt that this was anti-sentiment, but Madhusudana Rao argued that it was not, because the heroine, after all, falls in love with the same person to whom she had got married in her childhood, though she had forgotten about it. Director K. V. Reddi supported his view. When the movie turned out to be a big success in Bengali, Madhusudana Rao, without any hesitation, bought its remake rights and produced it in Telugu. The Telugu version was titled "Maangalya Balam." The movie was also made in Tamil with the title "Manjal Magimayi." It was on January 7, 1959 that "Maangalya Balam" was released and the Tamil version got released a week later on the Sankranti day. The cast included ANR, Savitri, S.V.Ranga Rao, Kannamba, Relangi, Suryakantham, Rajasulochana and Ragini. Thangavelu played Relangi's role in the Tamil version. http://www.kinema2cinema.com/oldmovie-news/the-story-of-maan galya-balam-44.html atreya gaaru... Madhusudana Rao assigned the task of writing the script to Acharya Atreya. At that time Atreya had bought a Chevrolet car from the son of Ghantasala Balaramaiah. The writer started roaming about in his newly-bought car, forgetting about the task given to him. Madhusudana Rao played a trick on Atreya. He asked the writer for the keys of the car, saying that he would return within an hour, and went away to Mysore to witness the Dasara festivities there. There was nothing that Atreya could do, and by the time the producer returned from Mysore, the writer had completed a major part of the script. movie chusaano ledo gurthu ledu gaani... songs maatram marchipoyevi kaadu alagani gurthu kuda pettukovalsina avasaram ledu... mind lo burn ayi untai ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vOEiwHxdzA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGRjGvW0AdM |
