With an aim of attracting more tourists in the country by improving cleanliness and hygiene conditions at tourist destinations, Tourism Minister K. Chiranjeevi on Wednesday launched the âClean India Campaignâ at world heritage site, the Taj Mahal. The 17th Century marble mausoleum, which has been adopted by State public sector undertaking ONGC, is the second site to be covered under this project. The firstâ Qutub Minar in New Delhiâ was adopted by the India Tourism Development Corporation in June 2012. âThe Clean India Campaign has been initiated by the Ministry of Tourism with the objective of increasing tourist arrivals in the country,improving quality of services, and providing a hygienic environment in and around tourist destinations across the country,â the Minister told reporters here. Besides the Taj Mahal, the ONGC will adopt five other monuments: the Ellora and Elephanta Caves in Maharashtra, the Red Fort in Delhi, the Golkonda Fort in Hyderabad, and Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu. |
