In the US, the Republicans have put paid to any hopes of fiscal expansion, so the only way to stimulate the economy is the monetary route. But as interest rates are already close to zero, that hand is tied too. So QE is a unique way of increasing liquidity. But now there is a risk of creating asset bubbles in the US. The Shiller CAPE is at one of its highest levels currently, house prices are increasing at a aggressive pace in some pockets of US and so on. So QE easing is likely sooner rather than later. In fact, the situation has become so bad that nowadays the stock markets fall on good economic news as that means the end of QE is closer. If the economic news is bad, market jumps up as QE is presumed to continue. This is a clear sign of warped behaviour in the market. | ||
