Hyderabad: The Congress’s shoddy handling of the Telangana issue has created problems for many infrastructure services in the State and the ambitious Metro Rail is no exception.

With haze pulling over the fate of Hyderabad, the `14,132 Crore Hyderabad Metro Rail project too faces hurdles though it may not be derailed. The status of the city is the major issue today. If Hyderabad is going to be a joint capital or capital of Telangana or a Union Territory has to be settled to place the rail project in proper perspective, officials point out. Fear of pro-united Andhra elements creating problems is palpable among the rail managers.

The project being implemented as a public-private partnership executed by L&T is scheduled to be completed by 2017. HMR officials told Postnoon while the issue of the status to the capital is an anxious issue, it does not face major problems as it is a Central project and the agreements are all clear. But they wish the Centre clarified the status of Hyderabad because a lot of administrative services need recasting once the state division begins.

The bigger trouble will arise if its population projection goes wrong. If the state division results in disturbances and population shifts, Metro Rail will be hugely hit because its existence is largely based on the migrant and floating population.

However, the Chief General Manager HMR Ziauddin, puts up a brave front. He said, “We are going ahead with the project as we have done a huge investment on this project and the State government is co-operating with us.”

On the population issue, he said, “the project started considering the migrants in Hyderabad. It seems the growth of population will become slower for the time being but it will not be so in the long run.”

Answering about the land acquisitions CGM Hyderabad Metro Rail said, we have completed almost 80 per cent by the help of Gretater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, remaining 20 per cent is yet to be done.

Sulatan Bazar, Ameerpet and Begumpet are the areas where we have some hurdles as the tenants refusing to leave the places we are negotiating with them hope we will acquire those places soon and because these are the policy matters we cannot comment on it until we get the orders” he added.

On the bad conditions of the roads and the HMR’s moral responsibility to help the local government, Ziauddin said the project has asked the R&B to specify the roads which damaged by the Hyderabad Metro Rail. “We will pay for the renovation HMR don’t want to make people inconvenient.”
