HYDERABAD: Chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy realizing that his days in the hot seat are numbered, voiced his open defiance against the Congress high command after consulting with key cabinet colleagues, in a move which experts said may see him leading the revolt in Seemandhra soon. Kiran spoke to finance minister Anam Narayana Reddy, welfare minister Pithani Satyanaryana, revenue minister N Raghuvira Reddy and PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana, among other ministers who were not in town, before stunning his own party with his Seemandhra-loaded statements on Thursday. "Any disciplinary action by the Congress high command would make him a hero in the Seemandhra region and make him also a popular politician on a par with Chandrababu Naidu and Jaganmohan Reddy," PCC spokesperson B Kamalakar Rao told TOI. Some party colleagues even advised Kiran to lead the Seemandhra movement in case he is forced to resign. His aides in the party and cabinet, who have been silent, are now opposing party president Sonia Gandhi's decision to create Telangana and many of his colleagues have also raised the banner of revolt. Four MLAs and one MLC from Srikakulam resigned and a couple of cabinet ministers also dissociated themselves from the party's decision on Friday. In the next few days, he would make some more people resign to provoke the party to take action against him, a source said. On Friday, former R & B minister Dharmana Prasada Rao, and his colleagues from Srikakulam district, Juttu Jagannayakulu (Tekkali), Korla Bharati (Palasa), B Satyavati ( Amudalavalasa), M Nilakantham ( Etcherla), P Viswaprasad ( MLC) submitted their resignations to the chief minister. Dharmana, who is accused in the Vanpic case connected to Jagan's assets finally found a way to make a graceful exit. The minister, who represents Srikakulam assembly constituency, finally met CM to make common cause with him. Emerging from CM's meeting, Dharmana in the company of other MLAs, said he was forced to resign as per the aspirations of the people of Srikakulam. "The people in Srikakulam district are opposing the bifurcation of the state and are fighting against it. What chief minister Kiran Kumar expressed yesterday are the sentiments of the people of the state. So, we have no option but to resign in deference to the wishes of the people," Darmana told the media. He also said he had urged the CM to forward the letters in case there was no change in the attitude of the party on the bifurcation issue. Kiran's cabinet colleagues from Seemandhra, including Pithani Satyanarayana, Galla Aruna Kumari and Sake Sailajanath and former minister Dharmana Prasada Rao backed the remarks of Kiran Reddy. Galla Aruna Kumari along with her son Jayadev too demanded the continuation of status quo, while stamps and registration minister Thota Narasimham said he would not allow the division to take place at any cost. However, the CM couldn't be contacted despite repeated calls to have his take on the developments.
