At the age of 60, Nagaiah fell into the acting profession by chance
After a brief brush with the stars that lasted for a few months, it is back to square one for 60-year-old Nagaiah. He is now waiting at Prasad Labs for directors or producers to notice him and offer him more films. Radhakrishna, the director of Vedam had reportedly given him one lakh as his remuneration and that came in handy to perform the operation on his wife who was suffering from a heart ailment and clear some loans. A farmer settled in a slum in Film Nagar, his trip to MLA Colony one morning to meet an acquaintance led to serendipitous discovery. He had a natural flair for acting and the money he earned by facing the camera was a quick solution to poverty. He is not entirely oblivious to the sudden media attention that is being showered on him. He says he hasn't stepped out of his home the past few days. He is stopped in the locality by those who are curious to know how he bagged the offer and every minute detail.

He feels good that people have noticed him but that doesn't satisfy him. There are mouths to be fed at home. But he stresses money is not that important, he wants to act. He adds, âAt this age I cannot get meaty roles, but I am confident of performing well if anything is offered to me.â

With disarming honesty he avers that when the director first stopped his car on seeing him and questioned if he knew acting, he said he had no clue what he was talking about. But when someone who heard the conversation remarked he was speaking to a movie director, Nagaiah realised how foolish he had been and rushed to the shooting spot and waited for hours to get in touch with director Krish. When he finally did, he reeled off his so called experience on stage and that he was willing to act. And he was accepted. âI would watch all of NTR's films and Gulebekavali Katha is my favourite but it's been decades since I've watched a movie. Spending twenty or thirty rupees on films is a luxury I can no longer afford.â So has he seen Vedam? Nagaiah appears disinterested; all he wants is another opportunity to act.
