evonne goolagong won a wimbledon end of 70s, beginning 80s lo. that is the slam final reached and won by an oz women i am guessing. dokic played for croatia till a few yrs back. last yr she reached aussie open quarters as an aussie. 2005 lo alicia molik reached quarters at oz open and she won bronze at 2004 athens olympics. schiavone is a fighter, so i am hoping she will not disgrace herself like jj. sammy stosur's game is in the stratosphere. after mowing down henin ans little sis, this must be feeling like club tennis for her. tomorrow nadal in straights and soda in < 4, nadal has a good chance of winning this without dropping a set. super exciting day of tennis. some really high-quality tennis with dollops of drama! stosur, jankovic, nadal and meltzer.... stosur/williams, i would have loved for either one of them to come through, but the rest 3, i am glad the guys i wanted to win, came through. melzer-joker was full of drama and had patches of high-quality tennis with some real stupid mistakes thrown in now and then. it was easily the most compelling match of the day and almost on par with fed-sod classic yesterday. melzer is one of the biggest underachievers of all time, he won junior wimbledon the year after federer won and then he achieved hardly much, except for a few wins over agassi..... now he seems to be putting it all together. he is going to find it tough to win even a set of nadal though! stosur choked a lot in the 2nd set, but she hit some super shots in the clutch to save match point and really stood up to serena. having beaten henin and williams in consecutive rounds, she deserves to be the champion, but unfortunately tennis doesn't work that way.... i really love the line-up for semis. jankovic Vs stosur and dementieva Vs schiavone..... i just hope they dont put up a nervous train-wreck of a match, but semi-finals that can atleast match the quarters in quality. i would love for it to be a jelena Vs elena final, but i wouldn't be too miffed if the other two make it through. it is the 1st GS semi for stosur and schiavone, but the (j)elenas have been in 2GS finals, so they have the experience..... but schiavone and stosur have held their nerves well so far. can they do it for another match? we will know soon and stosur-jankovic have no rest day, i hope stosur is ready mentally and physically tomorrow. jankovic is going to make her runnnnn and stosur will have to hit more winners to get past jankovic's defense than what she did with serena today! men's semis on friday, tomorrow is ladies day in paris. 2women's semis. stosur choked a lot in the 2nd set, but she didn't let the aussie spirit down and held her nerve in the 3rd..... US open has 5th set tie-break coz it suits the TV scheduling better. 5th set tie-break kind of implies there is a cap on how long the match can go. most grueling slam heat wise = aussie. aussie summer is brutal. and physically most grueling = french. athlettically demanding = wimbledon. demanding on concentration and focus = US open.
