quote:HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N.Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday asserted that he had no immediate plans of setting up a national party, even while not ruling out such a possibility in future.
Answering a wide a range of questions at an interaction with media on the eve of Mahanadu, the party's annual conference, he said the though there was pressure to expand the organisation to other States, there was no such thought at present. From the beginning TDP believed in federal cooperative structure in which regional parties play a key role in national politics.
Asked about the possibility of his son, Lokesh entering politics, he said that after completing his studies at Stanford University, he was into business now. Let him settle down in business and later if he wishes to serve the people, he could join politics anytime.
He wanted both Lokesh and Junior NTR to prosper in their careers. They could come into politics whenever they wanted serve people. Answering another question, Mr. Naidu said his wife Bhuvaneswari was not interested in entering politics. She was leading her life effectively and was a "big strength" for him.
Replying to another question whether his party would suffer in case of bifurcation of the State, he said the TDP was strong in all the three regions of the State.
The TDP had faced many crises since its inception and today the State was facing a peculiar situation now with strong sentiments prevailing locally. He had made his stand clear earlier that he would work for people of all the regions. He declined to comment when asked if Congress created the issue of State's bifurcation only to weaken TDP.
Accusing the Congress of coming to power by "misleading" people through impractical promises in the last elections, Mr. Naidu said the ruling party had taken the State backwards by 30 years and demanded a white paper on its rule for the past six years. Stating that Congress would be the main rival of the party in 2014 elections, he said TDP would fight against anti-people's policies, corruption and try to develop a "positive vote-bank" among the masses.
