Last year, all was down and out for the King of the tennis court. It was at Madrid that he tamed THE BULL and turned the entire tennis year on its head. This year, Fed-ex dazzled at the oz-open, particularly towards the business end of the tournament but after that he is 5-4 - very very ordinary. Today he played the best tennis I have seen him play since the oz-open final. He was not into 5th gear, but showed enough glimpses that he is just-about there. Tomorrow will be a good test, against Ernest Gulbis, who is one of the most talented kids on the block and who caused Roger umpteen misery by eliminating him in round no.1 at the Italian open. If Fed and Gulbis play like they did today, it is going to be one heck of a match. If you are a tennis fan, do not miss it. (dont blame me if Fed/Gulbis decide to mail it in!) We will have further proof, tomorrow, if it is the return of the King like last year or just a false alarm. If all goes to plan, we might end up seeing El Matador against The Bull from Mallorca on sunday. fingers crossed.
