Mumbai gets the top spot.Bangalore has already booked a spot with their superior NRR- 2nd of all teams in the points table. So the rest of the teams are fighting for 2 spots and the ones who can get there are: 1. Deccan- 2 games to go and they definitely need to win both. So tomorrow's match against Punjab is a do-or-die encounter for them. In the process of winning their remaining two games, they have an excellent chance of knocking out Delhi. 2. Delhi- 1 game against Deccan remaining and must win it to ensure they qualify. Otherwise, Chennai could defeat Punjab and sneak in through the back door on the strength of their NRR. 3. Chennai- Simple- must win the game against Punjab and will qualify without doubt. If Deccan defeat Delhi, Chennai take Delhi's spot on NRR. If Delhi defeats Deccan, Chennai take Deccan's spot on NRR. 4. Kolkata- Only a theoretical chance. There's no realistic possibility of them improving their NRR by so much to upstage Chennai so its bye-bye for Kolkata. 5. Rajasthan- Only one chance and its a convoluted one involving more than one result to go their way: a. Chennai must lose to Punjab b. Deccan must lose to either Delhi/Punjab or both c. Rajasthan must defeat Kolkata by a big margin to upstage Deccan on NRR/Points or both. So it involves 4 results to go their way and that seems too much to ask. 6. Punjab- No chance into the semis but amazingly both their remaining matches will be the most watched since Punjab will be the king-makers of this IPL. They have a match each against Deccan and Chennai (in that order) and the possible scenarios are: a. If Deccan lose and Chennai win or vice versa- the winning team qualifies. In Chennai's case its unconditional but in Deccan's case it depends on Rajasthan NRR. b. If Punjab win both matches, then Rajasthan's result against Kolkata will gain importance. If Rajasthan lose it- then Chennai go through. Else Rajasthan have a great chance. And Deccan's match against Delhi would be a quarterfinals for them. So all in all, the equation is becoming clearer.
