TDP MLAs âdebate' who should be Telangana CM Special Correspondent HYDERABAD: Notwithstanding the ifs and buts involved in formation of separate State and their own party's performance, some Telangana Telugu Desam MLAs have started debating over the coveted post of Chief Minister, albeit in lighter vein. The informal debate was touched off in the Assembly lobbies by a media person's query to Telangana Telugu Desam MLAs Forum convenor N. Janardhan Reddy on who had the best chance of becoming the Chief Minister, if a separate State became a reality. Pointing to senior party MLA M. Narsimhulu sitting besides him with a smile, Dr. Reddy said a Dalit like Mr. Narsimhulu had a chance. This was enough for Mr. Narsimhulu. He took off hoping that it would not be like TRS president, K. Chandrasekhara Rao's famous proposition that the âfirst TRS Chief Minister of separate Telangana will be a Dalit'. âGood promise' âIt looks good as a promise but when it comes to making one, leaders like KCR back out citing one reason or the other, â he said. Continuing his laughter, Dr. Reddy said he was different and he would support a Dalit though it may not be necessarily Mr. Narsimhulu as there are several other contenders in the party. Palvai extends support Even as Mr. Narsimhulu argued why Dalit should be made a Chief Minister, Congress MLC Palvai Govardhan Reddy entered and supported Mr. Narsimhulu saying there was no other senior Dalit MLA as him in TDP. When another MLA S. Venugopala Chary suggested that Dr. Janardhan Reddy could become Chief Minister and Mr. Narsimhulu Deputy Chief Minister, the latter said no Dalit would settle for it. After all becoming a Chief Minister is not the monopoly of only a certain group, he added. Mr. Chary chipped in to say he was prepared to take the post if only to end their quarrel evoking all round laughter! |
