In Mathematical school of thought, zero and infinity have a place that no other notation has. Indian scholars of the past could understand and formulate using these notations mainly because of the spiritual understanding of their universe. To Indians, sunya or void, infininite are concepts which have spiritual meanings, and they have been able to use these concepts in mathematics earlier than most others could contemplate the idea of zero. Especially in the Abrahamic religions, the universe was a finite entity created by God, and 1 was the lowest in mathematical notations they could get to. A value of zero would mean that there is a possibility of something being infinite, which went against their core beliefs. Mayans, some greek mathematicians used zero in some of their notations, but never actually defined mathematical properties of these notations. Aryabhatta's one of the more popular idiom - "Stanam Stanam Dasa Gunam" was probably the first instance of defintion of place value system, but he used only whole numbers in his representation, later mathematician Brahmagupta added zero to this system. Abu al-Rayhan al-Biruni actually translated many of these indian mathematical theories into arabic and latin. Indica is one of his texts that he translated to latin, based on Brahmagupta's works. western world has attributed al-Khwarizmi as the founder of algebra, based on his writings in arabic, but later it was proved that he learnt this branch of mathematics from indian mathematicians. Egyptians, Indians, Chinese were pretty advanced in various fields of mathematics, than the european counterparts, but there has always been bias to the european-middle eastern theories, and i think we all no why. the world of appearances may or may not be real, or both may and may not be real - or may be indescribable; or may be real and indescribable, or unreal and indescribable; or in the end may be read and unreal and indescribable - its all Syadvada | ||
