We have to keep in mind the consumers mentality in India. Think about the same scenario in India, let's say that happens to our neighbor, what do you think happens? He will publicize what happened to him when he used that product (and I must add, warns you against using that said product) to the whole street/colony/apartment complex/etc. At least 50% of his audience think twice before buying that product again, think about the losses to the company from sales. Here, once recall is issued, company endures the recall loss, and everyone goes back to business. Here, loss to the company can be calculated, there, it can be huge. | ||

dreamcatcher, awareness is both a boon and bust. One or two bottles of peanut butter have salmonella let's say. The company has to recall all that batch. The cost of recall and the whole process costs millions. I am not saying it's wrong. I am just saying if this was in India one person or two persons get sick and life goes on. The company that made the bad batch of peanut butter will not spend a dime. Coming to lawyer, I have always wanted to become a lawyer. These days most of them look like a sleaze ball though. I hear some divorce lawyers charge $400 & up per hour. Very lucrative field, very tempting to go looking for a law school :-) | ||

Granted awareness is high here, so are the reported numbers. At the same time, industrialization is high too, probably more than 90 percent of the food consumed here is processed food. Processed food has to be preserved and hence lot of external ingredients to achieve that introducing them into our bodies, not knowing what are the long term complications of doing so on our health. Coming to India, yes, cancer incidents are growing there too as we become more and more industrialized. Feeding 1 billion people is not an easy task, and yes, you need to know where you are getting your stuff from. Coming to lawsuits, they are tools to keep lawyers in jobs. Haven't you ever heard of food poising in this country? How many of them sued restaurants? | ||
