absolutely...he started off as a hitter with his 145 against pak......i havent seen a batsman more flexible to the needs of the team than Dhoni..now he can play a dravid if the situation demands..he can play a sehwag in the slog overs..or he can play a sachin in stealing singles..he has got the BEST temperament ever in indian cricketing history..antha kante em kavali captain ki.....and just the right cunning nature.. australia tho oka match lo negative tactics vadi gelipichedu..just because of his captaincy we had won that match......i've never seen saurav or any of the other captains WIN matches with their heads.. @MS: I definitely rate MS better than ganguly. Tactically MS is, by miles, the best indian captain. He has the potential to be in fleming, mark taylor league if he keeps this up. Kumble and laxman, I wish I had more to see them captain. Ganguly is definitely a better captain than them, but seeing kumble captain in the IPL and having heard about laxmnan's domestic captain, maybe we have not got to see everything Kumble and laxman had to offer. anyway, ganguly as a captain was definitely one of the best. @bhikhu : cool! sounds very much like one of my all time favorite dismissal. mark waugh c boucher bowled pollock. i just was crazyyy about that dismissal. that dismissal is etched into my head, much like that match. 5th ball of the match, pollock bowls a peach! god! what a match! i cried like a girl that night! (that Saf team is my most favorite team of all time. I really wanted them to win that 99WC) the next time I cried like that was the 2008 wimbledon final. 99 beginning lo tendulkar's 136 and june lo Saf's loss. Luckily sampras played like GOD in wimbledon and that made the pain a bit less and sachin's 116 in melbourne at the end of the year, and laxman's 167 in sydney 2000 prevented me from getting psychotic! @MS : dhoni is a better captain than saurav. kumble was quite good in the little time he captained. Laxman, as a captain in domestic tournaments is awesome. we will never know how good he could have been as a test captain. @NS: WC 87 was the 1st tournament I have memories of. India lost to aus by 1run. siddhu hit peter taylor for a bunch of 6s - just loved that phase of the match. i think this match was on diwali day, not sure. then i remember gavaskar played a "master-piece" against zimbabwe. he hit 50 odd in 100+ balls, kapil came during the end of the match and played his usual hurricane knock. supposedly kapil was pissed that the net run rate dropped - india DID NOT want to play pakistan in a semi in lahore. next match newzealand tho chetan sharma hat-trick and gavaskar's only ODI 100 where he played faster than srikanth. next the heart break against england in semis and then was awesome to see aus beat england - was a big Steve waugh fan then and allan border too All that is gold does not glitter, not all who wander are lost!!! | ||

Sourav had different plans .. he thought as a captain he is the only one in the team with ambitions .. but he never realised Dravid was frustrated waiting waiting and waiting .. but ofcourse he crumbled miserably is another vagaries of life !
lol .. this is simply discounting the great things he did without much name .. that century against Aus in Aus in Brisbane is something that made the rest of the series look like we were fighting .. same way .. in pak, he played his part as a captain ... his contributions with the bat might not be spectacular as captain .. but he was no push over .. he still had a healthy average when it comes to ODIs .. though in tests .. he looked meagre .. Sachin can never become a saurav, and saurav can never become a sachin. these two have a diametrically opposite personalities. Saurav is a better captain than anyone else. Sachin is a better batsmen than anyone else. I am not too impressed with Dhoni's capabilities as a captain, i feel he is a better batsmen than a captain and a keeper, but in the current team, he is probably the best the choice. Sachin fans ayithe Saurav ni hate cheyyatam ento naak ardham kaadhu.. atleast Lax fans Saurav ni hate chesthar ante ardham undhi.. we all know sachin was a terrible captain. To those who say sachin had the worst team, i agree, and i partly find it strange that sachin accepted such a team. @ Pplsuck 2:26: captaincy is a sore issue for sachin fans! Sachin is too "please-all" to be a good leader. He lacks the street-fighting skills as a person, (as a batsman he has loads) and over analyzes too much. If he had Saurav's resume as captain, I am sure sachin would have had a temple in every state.
