few months ago CBC aired a 15 mins episode about this guy. His mom is an Italian (he grew up in italy), dad is a south indian. He came back and settled in Kashmir or Himachal (I dont exactly remember). kudos to the indian community in Vancouver and all those who helped the Indian team get to the winter olympics. No matter how lousy our govt is, I am glad these athletes could make it. There's complete inaction from govt, average Indian everywhere - including us DBers when it comes to any sport other than Cricket. There is this guy Malli Mastan Babu who scaled Everest. In any western country scaling the 7 highest peaks in the world is heavily backed by promoters and almost all expenses are covered by private companies, national georgraphic society, alpine clubs and so on. When they come back from these mountains they do slide shows, write books, basically make money. In case of India, where nothing other than cricket is worshipped Malli Mastan Babu is neck deep in debts. I don't know why this guy is not invited by business schools to give speeches. Moutain climbing, 7 highest mountains in 7 continents takes immense determination and skill and luck.
