Jsp might be the party that made greatest sacrifice in Andhra, but that helped bring little more jobs and invests and opposition is hardly represented. If people are united investors also come more and overall as state benefited, every section of society also benefitted. If you go and see reddit there are people across religions finding the teachings of buddha suitable like I saw christian and Muslim and jew and Hindu and others interested in buddhism. The same I did not see as much as I saw people bring interested in Hinduism. Because hinduism is an ethno religion confined to India but buddhism has gone beyond borders. Friends the largest single united bloc india ever was when Ashoka ruled. After that many new things came and from philosophy we transitioned to bhakti. Just before bhakti started by shankara, we were having the heights of Hinduism in the gupta empire. So you see the foundation laid by ashoka took 1200 years of growth. Similarly I say it's time again that buddhism comes to the resuce to unite all of us. When people are going through troubles what good is opposite fighting ruling party. You can see how bjp+ tdp+ jsp combo worked. It will work even better if Congress and ycp and all others also join the coalition and have a united party without quarrel and keep supporting each other and be ready to not continuously pull down each other like crabs but join hands and take country forward. If country becomes better we also we become better and so also every party. Instead of 5 years look at 50-500 years etc. we need to strengthen our nation. If atleast all parties can join hands and so does all castes. Then all stats will follow and so does all religions. I think we as people are ok with some amount of give and take provided they are all benefiting the country. We followed ashoka then guptas then sultanate then dutch then british, then Americans, now we need to transform democracy into a national unity project, what is the Vedic idea that diversity is kulam should change to Dharma is the soul of the nation and kick away all that weakens nation. That kicking has to start from home where parents teach caste. I hope we all observe teachings of buddha as an inspiration to unite all of us rather than divide. Friends I hope in future Buddhists will support Brahmins and Brahmins will help budhists. If this change occurs all our caste differences will drop because we are turned to brahmin way of life because they have been our teachers for 1000s of years and if change happens all of us will also be helped and we will treat each other as same rather than reject cv based on last name. While noone can be ready beforehand for the future, it is wise to make a step to communicate and support each other. But if having your own view makes you pristineâ pure in wisdom, expert and thoughtfulâ then none of them lack wisdom, for such is the view they have all embraced. I do not say that it is correct when they call each other fools. Each has built up their own view to be the truth, which is why they take the other as a fool.â âWhat some say is true and correct, others say is hollow and false. So arguing, they dispute; why donât ascetics say the same thing?â âThe truth is one, there is no second, understanding which folk would not dispute. But those ascetics each boast of different truths; thatâs why they donât say the same thing.â âBut why do they speak of different truths, these proponents who profess to be experts? Are there really so many different truths, or do they just follow their own lines of reasoning?â âNo, there are not many different truths that, apart from perception, are lasting in the world. Having formed their reasoning regarding different views, they say there are two things: true and false. The seen, heard, or thought, or precepts or vowsâ based on these they show disdain. Standing in judgment, they scoff, saying, âThe other is a fool, an amateur!â They take the other as a fool on the same grounds that they speak of themselves as an expert. Professing to be expert on their own authority, they disdain the other while saying the same thing. They are perfect, according to their own extreme view; drunk on conceit, imagining themselves proficient. They have anointed themselves in their own mind, for such is the view they have embraced. If the word of your opponent makes you deficient, then they too are lacking wisdom. But if on your own authority youâre a knowledge master, an attentive one, then there are no fools among the ascetics. âThose who proclaim a teaching other than this have fallen short of purity, and are inadequateâ: so say each one of the sectarians, for they are deeply attached to their own view. âHere alone is purity,â they say, denying that there is purification in other teachings. Thus each one of the sectarians, being dogmatic, speaks forcefully within the context of their own journey. But in that case, so long as they are speaking forcefully of their own journey, how can they take the other as a fool? They are the ones who provoke conflict when they call the other a fool with an impure teaching. Standing in judgment, measuring by their own standard, they dispute with the world more and more. But a personage who has given up all judgments creates no conflict in the world.â "One should know what it is to extol and what it is to disparage, and knowing both, one should neither extol nor disparage but should teach only the Dhamma. Extolling and disparaging, and failing to teach only the Dhamma, is a state beset by suffering, vexation, despair, and fever, and it is the wrong way. This, therefore, is a state with conflict. Not extolling and not disparaging, but teaching only the Dhamma, is a state without suffering, vexation, despair, and fever, and it is the right way. The story goes that Prince Bodhi had a palace erected unlike any other palace on the face of the earth. It seemed almost to float in the air. Its name was Red Lotus, Kokanada. I had best kill this man, or cut off his hands and feet, or tear out his eyes; for if I do this, he will never build a palace like this for anyone else.â Prince Bodhi went to an intimate friend of his, a youth named SañjikÄputta, and told him what was in his mind. SañjikÄputta straightway thought to himself, âWithout a doubt this prince intends to kill the builder. But I shall not look on quietly and see an artisan who possesses so priceless a gift killed before my very eyes; I will give him a hint of what is in store for him.â So SañjikÄputta went to the builder and asked him, âHave you, or have you not, finished your work on the palace?â âMy work is finished,â replied the builder. Then said SañjikÄputta, âThe prince is seeking to kill you; look out for yourself.â {3.135} The builder replied, âMaster, you did me a [29.350] great kindness in telling me. Now I know exactly what to do to avoid trouble.â and thus escaped. May be if this country remained a buddhist land no invasion might have happened presumingly. Even if it did, the mason or architect of taj mahal would have been saved and many more such monuments would have been buildint perhaps if he was also a buddhist for the buddha read psychology of all kinds of people and whoever read his teachings would have also learnt about who the kind and merciful are and who was evil. When I read about alexander I hear him talk great about his vamsam dionyses and others just like hari vamsa, raghuvansa etc. but it is the buddha alone who tells do go by lineage or race or belonging to a school under a teacher but do only that what is moral. Was just reading the various dandayatras happened in Indian history and how men heads were cut, how women were taken and how kids were massacred one after another into several millions and I wish the whole country stayed as buddhist from ashoka onwards then it would have been better. Too much violence in the name of god and lack of unity based on caste, language and some or the other thing. Be rational and scientific friends, don't go by emotions. If there is a god that God is available to all humanity, if there is a god like venkateswara who is protecting us dharmo rakshati rakshita, then where was he when turks, bhamanis and others attacked. Where was hanuman, shiva, vishu, rama, krishna, etc. if these gods were meant to be only available in other yugas except kali Yuga then why pray to them. Kaliyuga daivam Venkateswara Swamy, why he is not ensuring all those who were converted at the fear of sword return back to Ghar wapasi. I really don't understand how someone ignores past and carries on with their current theme instead of looking back or look in present or look forward and see the entanglements and investigate what God is. I gave stars because I thought you shared some spiritual related video and was happy to see your reply to my post. I didn't understand now after seeing for a short 5 minutes of the video and it is related to dui. So I was unable to figure out why you shared. If you are saying I got influ nc d by buddhism yeah that may be so. Because earlier when ambani spent a lavish wedding I thoughts many strtups could be initiated with such money. But as I came across this story in buddhism I realised kings have different perspectives and was curious to learn from them also so that we can understand what other persons perspectives are. Dhammapada 177. The niggardly go not to the World of the Gods; simpletons applaud not almsgiving; But the wise man applauds almsgiving, and therefore wins happiness in the world beyond. This religious instruction was given by the Teacher while he was in residence at Jetavana with reference to Gifts beyond Compare. {3.183} For once upon a time the Teacher returned from an alms-pilgrimage with his retinue of five hundred monks and entered the Jetavana. Thereupon the king went to the monastery and invited the Teacher to be his guest. On the following day he caused rich gifts to be prepared for the visiting monks and then summoned the citizens, saying, âLet them come hither and behold the gifts which I have prepared.â The citizens went thither and beheld the gifts which the king had prepared. On the following day the citizens invited the Teacher to be their guest, and having prepared offerings, sent word to the king, saying, âLet the king come hither and behold the offerings which we also have prepared.â When the king saw the offerings which the citizens had prepared, he thought to himself, âThese citizens have given more abundant offerings than I; I will therefore present offerings a second time.â Accordingly he prepared offerings on the following day; when the citizens saw the offerings which the king had prepared, they also prepared offerings on the next day. Thus it happened that neither the king was able to outdo the citizens, nor {3.184} the citizens the king. Six times in succession the citizens increased the amount a hundredfold and a thousandfold, preparing offerings on such a scale that no one might be able to say, âThis or that is lacking in their offerings.â When the king realized what they were doing, he thought to himself, âIf I cannot provide offerings more abundant than these citizens, what is the use of my living any longer?â And he lay down, thinking over ways and means. As he lay there. Queen MallikÄ approached him and asked him, âYour majesty, why do you lie here thus? What makes you look so worn and weary?â Said the king, âMy lady, do you not know?â Said the queen, âMy lord, I do not know.â So the king told her all about it. Then said Queen MallikÄ to him, âMy lord, be not disturbed; have you ever seen or heard of a king, a lord of the land, who has been outdone by his subjects? I will manage the offerings.â [30.25] Thus spoke Queen MallikÄ, and she spoke thus because she desired to provide Gifts beyond Compare. Then she said to the king, âGreat king, give orders for the erection of a pavilion inclosing a circular space wherein monks shall sit to the number of five hundred, and let this pavilion be constructed out of the choicest wood of the SÄl-tree; let the rest of the monks sit outside of this inclosed space. Order five hundred white parasols to be made, and let five hundred elephants take these parasols in their trunks and stand and hold them over the heads of the five hundred monks. Have eight or ten boats made of ruddy gold, and let them be placed in the center of the pavilion. Between every two monks let a young woman of the Warrior caste sit and crush perfumes. Let certain young women of the Warrior caste take fans in their hands, and let each young woman stand and fan two monks. Let other young women of the Warrior caste bring crushed perfumes in their hands and cast them into the golden boats. Let other young women of the Warrior caste bring clusters of blue water-lilies, mingle them with the perfumes cast into the golden boats, and present the monks with scents. Now the citizens have neither daughters belonging to the Warrior caste, nor white parasols, nor elephants, so that by these means the citizens will be outdone by you. This is what you must do, great king.â The king replied, âGood, my lady! Your plan is a most excellent one.â And forthwith he gave orders that everything should be done just as the queen suggested. It happened, however, that one monk lacked an elephant. When the king observed this, he said to MallikÄ, âDear wife, a single monk lacks a single elephant. What shall I do?â âWhat say you, my lord? Are there not five hundred elephants?â âYes, my lady, there are. But the rest are rogue elephants, and when they see the monks, they are wont to become as wrathful as the monsoon winds.â âMy lord, I know where a certain young rogue elephant might stand, holding a parasol with his trunk.â âWhere shall we place him?â âBeside Venerable Elder Aá¹gulimÄla.â The king did so. Thereupon the young elephant thrust his tail between his legs, dropped both his ears, closed his eyes, and stood motionless. The multitude gazed at the elephant in wonderment, thinking to themselves, âWhat a way for so vicious an elephant to behave!â The king waited upon the Congregation of Monks presided over by the Buddha. Having so done, he saluted the Teacher, and said to him, âReverend Sir, whatsoever goods are in this refectory, whether they be worthy or unworthy, I present them all to you.â Now in this act of almsgiving fourteen crores of treasure were given away in one single day. Four objects of priceless value were placed at the disposal of the Teacher: a white parasol, a couch whereon to rest, a stand, and a footstool. No one who gave gifts to the Buddhas thereafter was able to equal the gifts which were then presented by the king, wherefore those gifts came to be known as Gifts beyond Compare. It seems that this happens once to all the Buddhas, and that a woman always manages this for all. Now the king had two ministers named KÄla and Juá¹ha. KÄla thought to himself, âHow the kingâs fortune has diminished! In one single day fourteen crores of treasure have been spent! And these monks, after feasting upon these alms, will go away, lie down, and sleep! How the kingâs fortune has been wasted!â But Juá¹ha thought to himself, âOh, what splendid gifts the king has presented! No one who does not occupy a kingâs station could make such a gift! Moreover, none make over the merit of their gifts to all living beings! As for me, I am thankful for these gifts which the king has presented!â When the Teacher had finished his meal, the king took his bowl, that he might pronounce the words of thanksgiving. The Teacher thought to himself, âThe king has given mighty gifts, like as when one sets in motion a mighty flood. Will the hearts of the populace be filled with faith, or will they not?â Perceiving the disposition of mind of those ministers, he became aware of the following, âIf I pronounce words of thanksgiving appropriate to the gifts which the king has given, KÄlaâs head will split into seven pieces, and Juá¹ha will be established in the Fruit of Holy life.â Therefore, out of pity for KÄla, he recited but a single Stanza consisting of four verses in honor of the king, who stood before him after giving gifts so splendid. Having so done, he arose from his seat and returned to the monastery. The monks asked Aá¹gulimÄla, âBrother, were you not afraid when you saw the rogue elephant standing before you, holding a white parasol?â âNo, brethren, I was not afraid.â The monks said to the Teacher, âReverend Sir, Aá¹gulimÄla utters falsehood.â The Teacher replied, âMonks, Aá¹gulimÄla has no fear. For monks like my son are of all the Noble who have rid themselves of the Depravities the noblest and have no fear.â So saying, he pronounced the following Stanza in the BrÄhmaá¹a Vagga, 422. The noble, the eminent, the manly, the wise, the conqueror, The pure, the sinless, the enlightened, him I call a Brahman. [30.27] The king was bitterly disappointed. Thought he, âAfter I had given gifts to so numerous a company, and had taken my stand before the Teacher, the Teacher omitted to pronounce words of thanksgiving commensurate with my gifts, uttered but a single Stanza, and then arose from his seat and departed. It must be that instead of presenting gifts appropriate to the Teacher, I presented gifts that were inappropriate; it must be that instead of giving such things as were suitable for gifts, I gave such things as were unsuitable for gifts. It must be that the Teacher is angry with me, for it is his invariable practice to return thanks to anyone soever in terms commensurate with gifts presented.â With this thought in mind, he went to the monastery, saluted the Teacher, and said this to him, âReverend Sir, did I fail to give gifts such as I should have given, or err by giving, instead of such things as were suitable for gifts, things that were unsuitable for gifts?â {3.188} âWhy do you ask, great king?â âYou did not thank me in terms commensurate with the gifts which I had presented.â âGreat king, the gifts you presented were indeed suitable; Gifts beyond Compare such as you presented can be presented but once to a single Buddha; gifts such as these are hardly to be presented a second time.â âBut, Reverend Sir, why did you not thank me in terms commensurate with the gifts which I had presented?â âBecause the assembled company was contaminated, great king.â âReverend Sir, what fault was there in the company?â The Teacher then told him of the disposition of mind of the two ministers, and informed him that it was out of pity for KÄla that he refrained from returning thanks. The king asked KÄla, âIs it true, KÄla, that you entertained these thoughts?â âIt is true,â replied KÄla. Then said the king, âI never took what belonged to you, but with the assistance of son and wife, gave only what belonged to me. Wherein have I done you wrong? Begone! What I have given, I have given. But as for you, depart out of my kingdom.â Having thus banished KÄla from his kingdom, he summoned Juá¹ha and asked him, âIs the report true that you thought thus and so?â âIt is true,â replied Juá¹ha. âYou have done well, uncle,â replied the king. âI am content. Take my retinue, and bestow alms for seven days precisely as I have done.â Having yielded the kingdom to him for seven days, the king said to the Teacher, âReverend Sir, behold what manner of thing this simpleton has done. After I had bestowed thus alms, he delivered this blow at me.â The Teacher replied, âYes, great king; simpletons [30.28] take no delight in alms presented by others and are therefore destined to future punishment. But wise men take delight in alms presented by others and therefore go to heaven.â So saying, he pronounced the following Stanza, 177.
