I knew he has been one of the best batsmen in the last few yrs, but never knew about his captaincy and personality until this world cup. Kane Williamson, undoubtedly is the best guy I've seen in Cricket after Dravid retirement. Even after the heartbreaking loss, he underplayed the role of overthrows and boundaries rule and said the unfortunate overthrow is not the main or only cause of NZ not winning the world cup. He is one of the best batsmen, THE best captain in the tournament and gave all out in the field and accepted whatever not in his control with grace. Kohli has my respect as a batsman, but as a captain I think he is stubborn, arrogant and has an effed up brain. Was reading some old articles and Rohit Sharma said a year or two ago that for him Dhoni is the best #4 in the current team. In the hind sight, it was so obvious and many people watching the semi-final thought Dhoni should have come way earlier to stop the flow of wickets. Kohli doesn't have half the brain of Rohit Sharma or 1/10th the brain of Dhoni as a captain. This loser was throwing tantrums in the middle of the game even against DRS. I don't think there is a single player who has been groomed and brought their best out with the support or planning of the captain under Kohli's reign. Moreover, he and Sastry sacked Pujara from the test team until Kumble came on board and fully supported him. They removed Ajinkya from few tests in SA (which I think caused the series loss), played musical chairs with #4 batsman and the 4th bowler. Even now, we don't know who will come in at #4 and if Shami will play in the next game or Bhuvaneswar and under what conditions. If Indian team management has any sense they should sack Sastry, may be make Rohit captain of the ODIs and give more power to the selectors and the new coach in team selection and decision making during the game. P.S. I think India's semi-final loss process started with removal of Kumble as a coach. Kumble looked like he had a clear plan for every format and every player when he was the coach. |
