Uber investors believe that eventually they will have a monopoly and then they can raise prices. So they are willing to lose money right now. But the cab business is not very complicated. As soon as the prices rise, there will be new competitors. All you need is an app. Another propaganda by Uber is that driverless tech will eliminate labor costs. Uber will run out of money before driverless technology matures. Also, what is the guarantee that Uber will dominate the driverless tech? It could be Google, Apple or a traditional auto company. | ||

+1 i think the end-goal .. is to loose $ until VCs exhaust.. then have it bailed out/acquired by a giant like Amazon,etc.. and move on.. nenu ikada Uber drivers toh i keep asking their biz model.. from drivers perspective.. recently Uber making lots of changes to the commission structure here it seems.. idi varaku Driver decline cheyadam vinaledu.. then i started hearing abt Drivers declining a ride.. or playing around for better ride etc seems they reduced the %ge cut for drivers.. and also, drivers are pushed to make more trips.. which means they now want to sit around at a Metro hotspot - avoid going to a far-off secluded area .. from drivers perspective.. if you are a citizen its a huge adv.. u drive for ur enthu, and get paid so they dont complain.. 3 months work, 1 month break ala kuda work chestunar.. ika there is a scheme where Uber can get you a car in partnership, and they reduce driver cut further.. they are still trying out 100 tricks.. but smthing that baffles me - with such Earnings, they still throw back crazy offers.. so vellaki salary expenses intha enduku ani.. may be we shud jump the bandwagon as long as funding exists..  brahma satyam jagan-mithyä jivo brahmaiva näparah | ||

On my last trip to India, almost all drivers said, they changed commission structure. My driver even lost his car because he couldn't keep up with car payments. Now, they have to make at least 10 trips in a day to get any bonus. | ||

That's interesting. Uber drivers own the cars. They get paid only a part of the ride charges. You own your own car but you pay Uber/Lyft to use their app (With other restrictions). Marketing and administration do eat a lot of revenue. | ||

that is for the 80% of rides. it makes up for that with the 20% of riders who are repeat users and help with balancing
that op cost can easily be brought down. they spent close to 200 mil on R&D which is their focus on autonomous cars. if they cut down on that, they can easily turn a profit. But that's not the issue here. avg lyft ride share $13 is mostly from the 20% repeat users while 80% are one time users. they can only maintain it there so long as that 20% stays and keeps growing. that is a bigger challenge. and as people move into scooters or uber or other forms, that number is at risk. Uber lost out over the last year and many like me shifted to Lyft. if uber corrects their game, another threat. and they can. | ||
