I read some books on geo politics 2 years back.....the summary is this way..... Assad’s dad Assad used to work in an army ....their native place has sectarian violence between Sunnis and alawis who are a sect in Shias..... Just like the Cold War during that time his party sidened with communists .....and modranised Syria and used to be a democracy......Sunnis in the country sided with USA ....after coming to power Assad turned dictator and abused elections like military junta in mayanmar. But there are no sukis in syria..... Like other communist stuff they devolved power away from religious hierarchy....which is indifferent in Islamic world where they go hand in hand....he got rid of all those Sunni leaders and modernized state all got well despite fall of communism.... Then Arab spring falling of dictators....but you must have noticed nothing happened to monarchies of saudi emirates bahrain etc......despite protests there especially Bahrain one is more violent and rampant one...because western media suppressed those news and highlighted Libiya and Syria......well Syria when it’s about to return to normalcy USA entered and again penta started.......
