i am inspired by BM. i keep my PF concentrated. i would rather buy a company at 2X price after stable growth than trying to catch turn around companies. icici harassed me to submit KYC and i had to go to their office 10 times. hey really pissed me off.. with zerodha i submitted everything online and they accepted. even in person verification was done via webcam. brokerage is on executed order. if you buy something worth 2L in one order you just pay 20 rupees brokerage. icici charges 0.5% on 2L which is 1000. zerodha model will disrupt all brokerages which have been working as a cartel till now. | ||

Dont invest blindly. you can spend a month reading both and given your intelligence that should give you a rough idea on what stocks you can invest in. you can commit 25% and icrease it over the next 3-4 months as you get comfortable with the business. | ||

i own kitex as well along with page but have to say both are not available cheap. if growth leaves then you will be in trouble but if growth continues at > 30% then your money gets compounded. kitex is more riskier than page. some questions on management going back on merger between kcl and kgl, holdiing cash without giving dividends, betting on forex gains are some concerns there.. | ||

When i entered the market nifty was at 7650. Have been buying all the way till 9100 and again back to 7980 now. I am happy that the index movements and volatility did not make me worried or loose my sleep. This is one of the tests i thought i should pass if i wanted to continue investing into equities in a big way. The last one year has given me confidence to allocate more to equities. Markets continue to struggle with respect to earnings and visibility. The overall state of affairs remain tough with the core economy showing no signs of growing. To add to the woes the RBI would not be cutting interest rates for the balance part of this year. The bull is now looking at a roadblock. Bull markets move on lower interest rates and higher liquidity. Both of which are missing at the moment. And with the concerns of a bad monsoon the overall level of economic activity shows no signs of growing fast. I am not painting a doomsday scenario and while we will continue to invest in companies that will continue to grow in spite of the govt. and the economy the ability to pick out companies that can promise 20%  25% secular growth looks tough. In this backdrop it makes sense not to push at companies expecting them to grow at higher rates of growth. As the basic economy slows and the markets slow down the rate of cash pump in by the FIIs would come down. It has happened that way always. And with the threats of US increasing interest rates the US$ seems to be in bullish ground and could rally from here on. Also when markets fall the FIIs don't bring in the cash or vice versa which would again strengthen up the dollar. It is with this thought (in the background) that I have been looking at IPR (Intellectual property rights) companies for the last two months. Companies that can grow at around 25% cagr and are also not levered to the core economy with earning in dollars providing a natural hedge against all kinds of bad news. By the way, our inner wear and mortgages companies seems relatively insulated from all this. But the Sensex would not fall too much from here because it has discounted the worst and it would not rise too much either because we can't see the better  at least immediately. I think the balance part of 2015 will be driven by the old favourites fast moving consumer, private financials and the exporters (especially IPRs/pharma). The IT sector is also export oriented but suffers from lack of growth. Hence I don't think that it will be in demand as much as the IPR companies. | ||

investing is more to do with behavioral aspects. when i started i used to sell as soon as i see 30% increase to lock in profits and i used to hold onto loosers even after they go down 50% in the hope that they recover. thankfully i was only putting lesser amounts back then. Just a couple of videos from BM made me see the light. he made a huge impact to my thinking. | ||

thats a fair point..but even with 50% drop during that period we are far ahead in the longterm.. I started in 07..am invested during recession..that was painful....but, u know what i made best money in 2009..when stocks are multi year lows..but didnt utilize it properly since sold them soon.. | ||

that may take a lot of time. you can make her visualize. what i did is to make a 15 year plan with how much we are going to put in each year and how much the minimum portfolio value should be at the end of the year and we can stop in case we go below minimum portfolio value any year after the first 2 years. i put in our current savings to start with and then putting 50% of our salaries each month. i assumed 15% returns so that i never underdeliver. even with 15% compounding she was happy with the returns after 15 years. she agreed that was better than returns from RE. with the recent PF performance i dont think i will ever go below minimum portfolio value. | ||

All she talks about is recession & what happened in 2008. If I say something her answer is you were not invested in 2008 so you don't know how you will react or deal with it. I think the best fix is good consistent results for few years, it will give her required confidence. we will do well.. i was worried after the run up to 9100 that it will hit 10k,11k without giving us opp to load meaningful amount and bull market will end. with the correction we are now assured that it still has lot of legs and will give enough time to load. | ||

was the same with me 1 year back but having made RE investments to satisfy them i put my foot down that future saving will be into equities alone. paper profits on the portfolio helped sooth their nerves. my wife now wants to put salary into equities as soon as we get it . parents are still skeptic and keep cautioning me to watch out. | ||
