If a PCI reduction is 5 years of 12000 led to a 8% reduction in poverty, how can a 5000 increase in PCI over 2 years lead to a 12% reduction in poverty.. naaku theliyali...  | ||

annai.. no one is denying that. 2005-10 methodology different & 2010-12 differnet undemo.. point in other thread, if this is the same technique applied across states, i can still make meaningful conclusions out of it anedi point. btw... 2004-09, AP agri-growth (production quantity) is 6.4%, highest for any state during that period. highest for AP for any 5yrs period. india has set target of 4% agri-growth during that time & able to achieve 2.9%.. thx to AP's 6.4%, its somewhat respectable. I was surprised at the poverty reduction stats of NSS yesterday. I had a look at the per capita income which is a more reliable indicator: http://www.ap.gov.in/Other%20Docs/STATE%20ECONOMY.pdf - Between 2005-2010 the per capita income went up by Rs12000 while the poverty % went down from 29 to 21% i.e around 8% - Between 2010- 2012, the PCI went up by around 5000, while the NSS says that the poverty went down by another 12% - If you see the sector wise breakdown, most of the increase in PCI over the last 2 years has come from real estate, construction, trade, restaurants and less of agriculture. Intuitively one would assume that the people below the poverty line are marginal farmer, farm labour etc and if the agriculture income has come down over the past 2 years, i find it difficult to believe that the poverty numbers have come down by that much.. I am tempted to believe that the NSS statistics are not right... |
