yeah .. even in the case of GSPC .. Guj Gas sold part of its stake to BG Group in 1997 .. and then .. in 2012 .. they wanted to exit from that .. and Guj did not want someone from outside to make a profit on their operations and acquired it through GSPC, instead of some Adani/Torrent as you quoting .. I dont see a contradiction here .. "India's national interest" is in being able to retain the profits .. No? btw .. as I googled on NELP - IX and I understood .. is this the failure you are referring to?
AFAIU this issue isnt connected to GSPC acquiring BG groups' stake .. NELP - IX bids were announced in Mar 2012 itself .. while GSPC acquired only in Oct 2012 .. how can a later event influence a prior event? Please understand that when you invest in something, you would like to get the best ROI possible but when that is not allowed to happen because of governments' intervention then that leads to loss of credibility and uncertainty for future investments. Adani & Torrent power were supposedly bidding quite aggressively to acquire BGs stake, 4500 Crore was BGs groups stake but had to sell it off for 2400 odd anukunta because of Modis' arm twisting and then Congress further muddled the whole deal by asking ONGC, BPCL & OIL to get out of this deal because they thought Modi will get credit. This was a very big controversy in 2011.... Anyway my point is, the article you quoted is true for both central and state governments | ||
