Coca... ------------- will i be eligible to take the cert with out any Proj Mgm experience ------------- My instructor told me that every project that you are involved, you need to manage your portion of the project and you don't need to be a designated project manager. So in your application you need to project your share of work as your managed piece like planning, execution, testing etc. So I beleive you can qualify your work from PMP perspective. | ||

It all depends on how much you can market your PMP certification. It is like a degree, but getting job depends on so many other factors. Whether you use the things you learnt in PMP preparation on the job or not, I am not sure. But, this is a sure way to get into management side. | ||

probably you are right. Our capital program is about $37B in the next 5 years and this year alone we are spending $17B. We deal with mega projects and have a matured Project Life Gating Control system. It's not perfect but works okay for our needs. I managed few major projects (totaling about $6.5B) in my career and once looked into the PMP certification and decided against it. I found it irrelevant and not useful for our needs. I did an Exec MBA instead. I still come across with numerous PMP certified personnel and if some one tries to oversell PMP in the interview, it's a red flag for me. | ||

Pulp... ------- is PMP that easy ? ------- I felt it was easy, but preparation was a TORTURE. I was NEVER confident that I was ready, but couldn't keep preparing for the test forever, so decided to take it no matter what the outcome would be. What helped me was taking number of practice tests at various sites. Most of the PMP sites have free test for full 200 questions. I took almost 10 to 20 of these free tests from various sites and I think it was very helpful for me. And also the formulas helped me a lot as there would 15 to 25 questions based on the formulas, especially the number of communications channels (there were several questions on this single formula). Overall I felt the real exam was NOT that tough. | ||
