There probably is no more stupider form of life elsewhere other than the most advanced animal species on the planet Earth. Similarly, any other intelligent form of life would not be stupid enough to contact us. All in all, we are all Forever Alone!!!

A lake buried below more than three kilometres of Antarctic ice has been shown to contain the DNA of an estimated 3,507 organisms.

That doesn't mean there's whales swimming around down there. The majority were found to be bacteria, many of which are completely new to science. Other organisms included fungi and various other single- and multicellular creatures.

Due to the lake's long isolation -- it's been cut off from the rest of the world for approximately 15 million years -- and the high pressure of the ice above it, it was thought that the water inside might be sterile. But ice cores taken from just above the lake's surface have shown it to be teeming with life.

Scott Rogers, a biologist at Bowling Green State University, who led the ice core analysis, told the Telegraph: "We found much more complexity than anyone thought. It really shows the tenacity of life, and how organisms can survive in places where a couple dozen years ago we thought nothing could survive. The bounds on what is habitable and what is not are changing."

Vostok's dark, icy waters are thought to be an analogue of the seas of Europa, a moon of Jupiter. If life survives in Vostok, there's a chance the seas of Europa may also be able to support life too.
