That the media in Andhra Pradesh is divided on regional and political lines for several years is a fact known to every reader and viewer. While pro-Telangana media has been trying to highlight the injustice caused to the region and castigating the Seemandhra groups, the rival media has been making every effort to play down the Telangana movement and ignoring crucial issues pertaining to the region. It was once again evident a couple of days ago, when big media houses like Eenadu, Andhra Jyothy, Sakshi and their associated channels have completely ignored the attack on Telangana Atmeeya Yatra, taken up by Namasthe Telangana, a local daily, to the Seemandhra region in the name of promoting regional harmony and explaining to the people the benefits of state bifurcation. After the initial protests and over-action by the police at Jaggayyapet in Krishna district, the vehicle carrying a special edition of Namasthe Telangana daily paper had a smooth travel through Krishna and West Godavari district. Even in areas like Amalapuram in East Godavari district, the Atmeeya Yatra ratham did not face any protests, but after it entered Razole, there was an attack on the vehicle. Some Congress workers, supposed to be the followers of minister P Vishwaroop, damaged the vehicle and assaulted the driver and reporter following the vehicle. There were protests in different parts of Telangana over the attack, but the incident or protests did not get any coverage in the other media, which completely ignored the issue. There was not even a condemnation from the journalist union leaders. âIt clearly shows that there is a division among the people and even the media.
