HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam party president N Chandrababu Naidu has raised hackles by his incoherent political moves those have apparently put his party in spot. And as he embarked on a visit to flood-hit Uttarakhand on Sunday, Naidu criticized the government for not being responsive to the victims from the state but could not justify his foreign sojourn during the period. He just landed in Hyderabad in the early hours of Sunday after a week-long personal tour in the US. Being the leader of the opposition in the AP Assembly he was conspicuous by his absence in the House during the past over one year. He had come under attack for not attending even the special session on the politically significant SC-ST sub-plan, and he was not in the House when the finance minister presented the budget in March this year. His priority was his state-wide padayatra he undertook between October last year and April this year. "We are finding it difficult to convince people about the political moves of our leader. While our party is attacking the government for not conducting the Assembly proceedings properly, Naidu did not even bothered to attend the session. And now, he wants to criticize the government for not lending helping hand to the flood victims, while he himself was ensconcing in the US when people where suffering," said a TDP leader requesting unanimity. When the second leg of the budget session was called this month, Naidu turned up on the first day and he did nothing except taking part in offering condolences to his party member Ambatti Bramhiah who passed away recently. His total stay in the House in the 10-day session was mere 27 minutes. Naidu left for the US last week when the Assembly session was on. And coincidently, on the day, the torrential rains wreaked havoc in Uttarakhand resulting in devastating floods claiming lives of thousands including pilgrims from AP. Some of the TDP leaders said he didn't cut short his tour even after they informed him about the incident. A query on this, on Sunday, in a press conference, put him on his defensive. "I had been to the US on my personal issues. I could not come back when the tour was half-way through. It was the government's responsibility to rush to the help of the victims. I am just an opposition party, and I am doing my best," said Naidu. He said apart from sending a team of doctors to Uttarakhand on behalf NTR Trust, he was also visiting the fold-hit area. Offering all possible support to the victims from the state, he said his party MLAs and MPs had donated their one-month salary. |
