long distance running kee naaku thelisinantha septhaan...no first hand info...but read from web, watched TV, friends prep

your "target" is completing a marathon
the daily regime you have for running is increasing your "endurance"

to compete and complete a marathon - you have to "train" for a marathon
this includes quite a no.of weeks of prep...labor day appudu marathon untaadhi...so this is the best time to start
prep includes incrementally increasing your endurance, strength and following a "proper" diet

proper diet kee oka example - when to eat potassium rich foods like bananas, when to eat starch stuff etc
training - how many times per week you run? what is the recovery time? what is the distance last ran? what is the next increment? what wt training you need to strengthen your legs, core muscles?

one thing to rem -
you "run" a marathon on that day
you dont really run it total distance before that day

my friend went through a running group via his office ppl
specific training, diet layouts ichaaru
he trained with the group
arlington area anukutnaa , if info needed ...seppandi

worth anukuntunnaaa...to gi under professional guidance

run every alternate days, don't run more than 3 or 4 days a week. reserve weekend for a long run at slower than your normal speed.. but run for longer distance..

Start with 5k and move ahead every month.. once you get enough stamina.. follow hall hingdon's marothan schedule..

If you are going on long run > 8 miles carry dates... they are excellent source of Carbs.. have egg whites after completing the long run..

by the way, i've been running for 4 weeks now..and it feels f'ing great....our home backs up to a trail i am doing 5 miles every other day - with walking breaks after the first 2 miles to normalize my heart rate

running start chese mundu i trained for about a month on elliptical..so far no shin splits or back aches

I am still learning the tricks of the trade, but I've come to learn that my performance is better when I do the following:

- hydrate throughout the day & not just before the run so i don't feel sluggish
- easy on carbs and meals - i know ppl load carbs but i felt very sluggish when i did that..i am doing well on a salad for lunch
- a full banana 30-40 mins before the run
- energetic mujjik

yday i did 6 miles in 1 hr..

I too will have half banana if I go fun 10k. For 10 Mile, full and ninna first time, I had 2 tbl spoons of honey and banana..and looks like that made me go 13.1. i initially planned for only 10 Mil but honey made me go extra 3.1 miles.
I know few runners who take GU energy gels for longer runs

Saturday a friend of mine did a half marathon (13.1)in FREDRICK, MD. He completed in 2 hour 30 min and he said he practiced for a month on a tread mill. Every day seems he practiced for 45 min to an hour! During the marathon he had GATORADE and water every 2 laps.

For marathon prepping...need inputs on quick energy boosts during practice runs. Are Gatorade Gels okay? Taking Banana now, but looking for additional sources. Thanks in advance.
