The issue came to light after police received the autopsy report which stated that the victim was strangulated to death before the accident. Police immediately swung into action and nabbed two persons who revealed the story behind the murder. According to information, Kesana Balakrishna of Kandlagunta village of Veldurthy mandal was a close friend of a local farmer Udumula Anji Reddy who is said to be worker of a leading political party and has connections with top leaders. Without Balakrishna's consent, Anji Reddy reportedly took an insurance policy on Balakrishna's name for Rs 85 lakh a few months ago and paid premium regularly. He further named himself as the nominee to make a claim in the event of Balakrishna's death. Claiming that Balakrishna had died when his auto collided with a speeding lorry near Nagarjunasagar on May 2, Anji Reddy applied for the insurance claim. The driver of the lorry which hit the auto also fled from the scene. The local police registered a hit and run case and sent the body for autopsy. With no one, including the family members of Balakrishna, suspecting anything, police almost decided to take up the investigation as a routine accident. However, they were stunned on receiving the autopsy report which stated that the victim was smothered to death before the said accident. Police immediately summoned his wife and grilled her. Sources said that Balakrishna's wife reportedly suspected the role of Anji Reddy during the interrogation. The police then picked up Anji Reddy and grilled him following which he reportedly confessed to the crime. Sources said Anji Reddy reportedly engaged hired killers to eliminate Balakrishna promising to pay them Rs 13 lakh for the job. He promised to pay them after getting the insurance amount. As per the agreement, the assassins took Balakrishna to Nagarjunasagar and killed him by smothering after tying him up with a rope. Later, they kept the body in the auto and got it hit by a speeding lorry on the Nagarjunasagar road.
