any home-grown framework out there in the market would still be based out of Obj-C only, and approved/released by Apple. This is only for Apple iOS based devices, mind you. In fact, Obj-C toh Mac OS kosam kooda apps raayochhu...

Ippudu simba goru seppaaru. Android's issue is Fragmentation, given the wide array of manufacturers, carriers and the devices released into the market. I'd much rather prefer to see the other side of the coin. Fragmentation is an opportunity. And Android's API already offers the much needed tech, tools and possibly everything to cater to the need of increasing demands. You can design/scale your app to fit from a 3 inch screen to a 11 inch screen, and make it work as and how you want it, including animations, hardware component accessibility etc (non-camera devices do not show the Check Deposits option in our client's app). iOS on the other hand is a proprietary monopoly.

Now if you want to write a common app that runs on both Android and iOS, it's like asking to write the same installable program for both Windows and any flavor of Unix. It is not that it's not possible, there are a whole lot of possible and alternate solutions to even achieve that, but the downside is that once you have targeted and achieved a Hybrid app, organizations will stop funding your team anymore!!!

This war for monopolizing apps exists since the times of Symbian and Blackberry OS. It is only now that iOS and Android have taken a lead, and are pretty much at the peaks of their shelf lives. If you are really interested and seeking a change, watch-out for Firefox B2G and Tizen.

Write once, run everywhere model may be cost and time effective, but definitely not conducive for long-term sustenance.

my issue is that developers pigeonhole themselves towards a single tech, may be due to the laziness offered by various api layers. in my view, a serious developer should have abstraction layers built, to make his applications run on multiple systems. to me from a business perspective it offers more flexibility. especially applications that are geared to share between users.

why would any one build apps for one platform only, beats me.

Look at Tizen and Firefox B2G. Linux core running a Webkit engine. That's about it. As good as having a browser in your hand. No jhanjhat of monopolized native apps. If they pick up well, mobile websites is the future!!!

Users have freedom to pick and choose different brand devices for Android. But this poses inherent issue called "Fragmentation". There are so many versions of Android, each vendor has own customization, hardware varies from device to device. These factors make developer's life hell to support all the platforms within Android.

OTOH, Apple is the soul device maker for iOS and has much tighter control over certification of apps going to AppStore. User don't have choice but the apps at least work as expected.
