I personally feel awkward even asking close friends for favors. That too would serve as a litmus test. I agree that it's all subjective and changes person to person. For me, a friend is whoever I can talk openly with (let my guard down and have no social filter) | ||

Why do you need to draw a line and pigeonhole people into categories ? kinda agree with your post. But I sure can pick up from where I left off with a handful of people, mostly friends from my Engg alone. But otherwise, last 9 years, I have made more acquaintances, including roomies. I really don't think I can call them out-of-the-blue some time and start from where we left off. If I call, it's gonna be a fresh start anipisthundi. I also talk to someone for an hour and introduce them as my "friend" to others, but deep down, I know I don't know the diff exactly. How would anybody rate someone as a friend, and someone else merely as an acquaintance? | ||

But I've some people who meet and talk to me for an hour and introduce me as a "friend" to another person... Anyway, I don't think you can pick up where things were left off but I call friends I haven't talked to in years to "catch up" | ||

Friendship and Acquaintance? Ante general gaa aduguthunnaa... Years of knowing one-another? How much you know about the other person's life? How much do you know about the other person's personality, possibly in a very short span? Can you call them out-of-the-blue some day after not talking entirely for a couple of years for various reasons - mostly lethargy though, and pick it up from where you had left off? |
