The announcement made by AICC in-charge of Andhra affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad and Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde postponing a decision on the Telangana issue is believed to have been done only for the sake of newly elected vice-president Rahul Gandhi. According to reports from New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi, who had attended the core committee meeting of the party for the first time in the capacity of vice-president on Saturday, told the ministers that he would like to handle the Telangana issue but would need some time to resolve it. His mother and party president Sonia Gandhi also agreed to refer the issue to Rahul Gandhi and told him that it would be a major challenge for him to resolve it as it would prove his capabilities as an able leader. It was only after Rahul’s initiative that Shinde and Azad announced the postponement of the Telangana decision. Sources said he was basically in favour of Telangana, but would like to study the pros and cons of any such decision. He is expected to take a decision within a couple of weeks, sources said.
