If you are not planning to put a TV tuner, any off the shelf PC will do. Make sure the video card has HDMI out. Try to limit to dual core processor (i3) and 4 GB memory. The goal is to have a silent PC in living room, so don't go crazy with components. | ||

@Simba, Do you do home automation in ur home ? like operating curtains/blinds/lights etc using smart phone or wireless etc.. There are some good home automation products like nest thermostat,philips hue for lights etc...but I didnt find anything for operating blinds. | ||

not exactly same, but i have this device. i have android-on-stick. meaning a small device (little bigger than flash drive) with android loaded on it. (it doesn't have any display), but comes with HDMI plug. just insert directly into your LCD tv hdmi input. it has built in wifi, bluetooth etc.. basically running android on your big LCD tv. you can browse net and do all the things whatever you can with your typical android device. | ||

Do mean hotspots? Since you need 3g, it has to be serviced by a carrier like AT&T, Verizon. You need to subscribe to dataplan from the provider for this hotspot and can be used anywhere on their network. Not many have gps support. I believe AT&T Mobile Hotspot Elevate 4G has gps support too. | ||

54mbps is theoretical max speed. 25-26mbps is what you see in real world. It depends on other clients connected, firewall rules, QoS setting and other 2.4ghz interference like cordless phones, microwave usage etc.

@kfp, Problem is not with router but your devices. New router will not help you there. Let's start with 5ghz. Nee lappy lo 'n' ledu but 'a' speed lo 5ghz radio ki connect avuthundi. Still speed is 'a' which is less than true 'n' speed. Repu kottha device/lappy konnavu anuko. If it has 'n' support at 5ghz then it will connect to 5ghz radio. But, 5ghz band lo already 'a' lappy undhi kabatti, kottha device kooda 'n' speed ki padipothundi. That's why 5ghz band lo 'n' clients kaakunda, vere evi kooda connect cheyyakoodadhu. 2.4 Ghz: Basic ga 5ghz-n client kaakunda, migitha anni ee band lo connect cheyyali. The idea is, keep all 5ghz/n devices in one band and rest in 2.4ghz. N600 - wndr3400 and Asus rt-56u ki wireless lo difference ledu. Asus ki wired ports anni Gigabit (1000mbps) lo unte, netgear lo just high speed (100 mbps) unnayi. Plus, Asus lo 2 USB port unnayi. You can connect external hard disk to it and share it with all computers in the network. | ||

Asus RT-N56U is great router. Next few years varaku mallee router gurinchi alochinche avasaram undadhu. go for it. 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands ki separate SSIDs ivvu. 5Ghz mode lo only lappy (802.11n) ni connect cheyyi. You don't want non-802.11n client to connect to 5ghz band. Rest of the devices 2.4ghz band lo run avuthayi. | ||
