Chinese held incredible respect for indian sciences and traditions during those times. the historic visit of huin tsang, all the way from kashmir to sri lanka and back to china is one of the well documented travels, which talk about sino-indian relations of those days. I think it was during the Han Dynasty, when indian astronomers were invited over to china, and many indian astronomy related texts were translated into chinese. Goutham Siddha was one astronomer, born and bought up in china(parents are from india), who translated some astronomical and astrological texts to chinese. Nalanda University was its helm during the visits of huin tsang, I Tsing. Many texts written by these scholars show Nalanda as a place great of knowledge, especially budhist philosophies. sadly, these two countries share no trust now. the world of appearances may or may not be real, or both may and may not be real - or may be indescribable; or may be real and indescribable, or unreal and indescribable; or in the end may be read and unreal and indescribable - its all Syadvada | ||

Recently saw the movie Confucius and today while reading a text on World civilizations, came across some very interesting and eye-opening(for me ) tidbits about Chinese history and its timeline... Thought I'd share the highlights of another ancient culture for those interested. 1029 BC - 258 BC : The Zhou dynasty Political structure : The alliance systems with small agricultural kingdoms . Primary Contribution : Established cultural unity,discouraged primitive religious practices of Hwang he civilisation(banned sacrifices), promoted linguistic unity ( the birth of Mandarin Chinese) 551- 478 BCE : Confucius - elaborate statement of Political ethics and governance philosophy 221 BCE to 201 BCE : Qin Dynasty - Initiated construction of the Great wall Political structure : Further centralisation of Government- sHi Huangdi was an autocrat Primary Contributions: National Census, tax evaluation and labor service : Standardised coinage, weights and measures. : Standardised script and single official language : Road and traffic planning to the extent of regulating axle size on carts. 201 BCE - 220 CE : Han Dynasty started by a peasant leader.. Wu Ti from 140 BCE was its most famous ruler Political Structure : Reversed the autocracy of the Qin, but retained centralisation. Workings of state bureucracy improved and applied Confucian principles China, in 140 BCE had the equivalent of today's Civil service exam, a fiercely competetive exam testing knowledge of chinese classics,literature and law.This was followed by and rigorous training.. It had 100,000 plus such trained bureaucrats to govern the country. And there was a school to train talented individuals for these exams  These trained and experienced bureaucrats could control the whims of the single ruler.This system was so robust that it outlived all the dynasties and lasted into modern times. Primary contributions : Expanded territory to Indochina,central Asia and Kora. Trade routes with India and the Parthian Empire Wu Ti's rule brought peace and prosperity -where granaries and cash reserves overflowed.
