Tamil lo same cast as Telugu kada? May be I should skip Hindi version! will see. I felt that kalyana mandapam was too damn unrealistic even for our movies. Wanted to see how the movie was made for native hindi audience since they shot every single scene two times, unless it was a solo scene with Ash. I said "atrocious movie" yesterday. So, last night I watched with minimum expectations. That was the key behind saying movie was okay. My imaginary friend went away for an year in search of his brain! | ||

On 2nd viewing the movie was better but Lord, so many unnecessary scenes. Karthik ala hanumanthudi la chettu meeda jumping cheyyadam – that literal interpretation was bizzare at best. Both Suhasini and Mani had a copy of Ramayan threw out the movie. Bad idea. I don’t know what’s worse, Karthik getting on the tree to talk to Aish or 360lb Prabhu getting on the tree to catch him. I have no f*iing clue why the SP had to kill Chakri. I mean seriously. The movie did a good job of making us hate the so called good guys in the story. The bridge fight was awesome. All our mass heroes need to learn a thing or two from this . Some of the camera wizadry was a little too much and that camera shaking to show all the zillioin thoughts going thro Vikram’s head was more comical than effective. Vikram was very good, though I didn’t like the whole 10 headed raavan interpretation. Aish was decent too. Was she willing to stay b’coz of Stockholm syndrome, or did she fall for him or did she want to spare her husband’s life like an Indian pativrata? They should’ve at least taken her ring. Bochu boldu dabbulu vachevi. Things I loved: Location location location Photography was out of this world Vikram was very, very good. Pedda laddu prabhu, china laddu Karthik were good too. I guess Maniratnam took them with nostalgia. I hope Aish and Vikram get a best actor nomination out of this, if not a win. Otherwise, so much drenching in rain for nothing. Things I didn’t like: Editing was bad. Such literal interpretation of Ramayan was so unnecessary. Jatayuvu, Vibhishanudu, Hanumanthudu, Soorpanakha type lo mukku kosta anadam! nee yabba! The whole of last scene. And in the end she had to ask sunta questions like “naakosam vachara” What the F with a capital F. Only in desi movies is this possible. Ayana: Jagarkkodandii jariginda? Neee yabba, nee yamma. What the hell! Aavida: nannu Chooste teliyatla. Em telustadi chooste? She should’ve pulled the chain and left him right there and gone back to Mumbai to her real husband. However, that can’t happen in a movie which is an interpretation of Ramayan to the dot. So, she has to go back to the jungle all decked up and the ever so smart Veera with all his 10 heads can’t figure that husband will follow her and by the time he figures out it’s too late. What an unnecessary death. The cops for a change can shoot so well that not a bullet hits Ash. Only strategically placed droplets of red tilakam (I mean blood) Moral of the story – never fall for a woman who comes into the jungle without a smudge of mud on her dress. She is just a decoy. And Veera has such a network in the jungle. Yet they all were sad that Ash is gone that they all got drunk and slept. 200 cops show up and trek up a hill and not a single soul sniffs them out to Veera to warn. Sheesh! If they didn’t call the movie Ravan and called it Ragini or Roja 2 and eliminated Hanuman and Jatayu and the zillion heads of Veera and hired someone else as the dialogue writer the movie would’ve run decently imHo. 2nd moral of the story – always watch a movie after reading lousy reviews on ccdb. You will watch with lowered expectations and movie will look good or at least not-so-bad. My imaginary friend went away for an year in search of his brain! |
