During his recent visit to Bangalore, Rajnikanth did not visit upmarket malls, for fear of being mobbed and creating traffic jams. He plumped for his old adda, a bar and restaurant in Kalasipalya. While most dread crossing the traffic of KR Market and Kalasipalya, he made a quiet entry and as quiet an exit 10 minutes later, without even being noticed. This was his adda when he was a BTS conductor in Bangalore in the 70s. Then, it was a hotel where Rajni had his meals. FLYING VISIT On July 27, when Rajnikanth was returning from Mantralaya to Chennai, he stopped by in Bangalore, staying in his flat on Race Course Road. Rajni meets up with old friends whenever he visits Bangalore. One such old friend was his cousin Gopinath, who owns Ashwini Bar in Kalasipalya. Earlier, Ashwini bar was known as Gopal Rao Military Hotel, which Rajni frequented. Gopinath took over this hotel. Now, Gopinath's son Ananth has converted it to Ashwini Bar and Restaurant. Since the hotel displays many photographs of Rajnikant, it is popularly known as Rajni bar by regular customers. With most of the customers being Tamilians, there is a huge fan following. Rajni's other old friend is Raj Bahaddur, who was a BTS driver at the time. This time, both of them accompanied him to Mantralaya. When he went to drop his father, Ananth requested Rajnikanth to visit his bar but did not expect him to land up. "I did not expect Mama (Ananth calls him so) to visit the bar, of all the places. Around 11.50 am, I got a call from Raj Bahadur uncle, asking where I was, so he could visit me. I told him I was in the bar. In the next two minutes, a car arrived and I was expecting Raj uncle to get down. When Mama alighted, I did not know how to react,"’ he said. There was no one to stop Rajni, who went straight and sat at the bar counter. Later, he visited the kitchen and garden restaurant and the small office room. As he was leaving, people started recognizing him, but Rajni had boarded his car. "I thought they would have lunch and when I asked, he just laughed. All the time, he was smiling, talking, but customers did not recognize him,"Ananth said. However, hotel staff started taking photos and recording Rajni's every movement.
